Its a reading program in conjunction with the Buckaroo Rodeo. During the next few weeks, the Reading Rodeo Rally will involve all the pupils of Kanesville Elementary School. This reading program will also involve parents by encouraging them to read and listen to their children an important part of the childs education. A card will be sent home each week as each event in the Reading Rodeo begins. When the event is over, the card will be returned to school with the signatures of parent and student, and total points scored for that event. At the conclusion of the Rodeo Rally, winners from each class will be chosen and a special prize awarded them. For this event the contestants had to read aloud to a parent for 15 minutes per day. Parents had to tell a bed time story each night during the week, and read one magazine article, and also read and explain a recipe to their child. There are three additional events to complete the reading rally. Each event has a rodeo name corresponding with an event in the Buckaroo rodeo. f ' ' theiwYrM( MAJESTIC WALNUT CASTLE GOLD 316x4x8 316x4x7 1st grade 2nd grade simulated on lauan plywood. National, state and local PTAs have been very concerned with the fact that television is filling a great many hours of our childrens time. Research shows that an average child spends more time watching television than in classrooms by the end of high school. As a result, reading suffers. Not only is it important for students to read more, but also it is important for parents to read and to read to their children. We should be an example to our children by reading ourselves; thus helping our children gain a desire to read more. Early indications are that both parents and pupils are becoming enthused about the program, according to a sixth grade teacher. Here is a sample testimony from the mother of one Kanesville Elementary girl. Its a very good program. Last week I checked a book out of the library and weve read together. Ive found words she needed help with, so it really helped her. I didnt realize how much TV the children were watching. She still gets her homework done, but I like the chance to get more involved with her, said Mrs. Aeschlimann. She and her daughter, Tiffany, live in Taylor. Reading is a great learning experience we cannot afford to miss out on. Help your child succeed in this project and help your families become closer and better able to enjoy reading together.
