Show porrsracuiar Women 's cross country enters 2nd year Pag After what he feels was a very successful of cross country recruiting, Coach Bob Hill feels that Weber States second year of womens cross country should be more eventful in more ways than one. Were an exceptionally young team, but if everything goes as weve planned it, these girls could finish high in the region standings. The time we spent recruiting these girls should begin to pay off for us someday. Thats just the kind of athletes they are, said Hill. The Wildcats participate in the same region as Brigham Young who may be the strongest team. Other region members include the University of Colorado which finished second in the nation last year. Colorado State, New Mexico and Arizona are all powerhouses according to Coach Hill. When mentioning the extremity of youth on the Wildcat squad, Hill wasnt joking in the least. Three members are sophomores while the remaining seven are all freshmen. Of course with cross country only in its second year at Weber Staste, this is un- Janeen Hatch, Darla Jacki Arnold, Patty Huff and Janet Alice Tegeder, Stacey Rientjes, Bringhurst, Williams. Tegeder comes from Clearfield High where she ran the 440 and 880. Hill expects her to be one of his top runners. Rientjes is from Layton High where she was a top 440 ace. Hatch comes from Davis where she was a top long distance runner for the Darts. Bringhurst comes from Bonneville. She is looking toward the track season with competition in the 440. Her smooth striding pattern attracked Coach Hill and he feels she can be a successful cross country ace. Arnold was Idahos top miler in high school last year and she is expected to te a top Wildcat runner. Huff won the Wyoming 880 race for women last year. Williams comes from Woods Cross where she ran the 880 and ended up finishing third in state. Coach Hill is one of the number of bright young coaches on the Wildcat staff this season. He has one of come up the finest of all possible backgrounds-havi- ng himself. He was employed by a local bank as branch manager for the past three years prior to accepting his present position on the Wildcat athletic staff. Hill is also an Ogden native, and a Ben Lomond High graduate. He and his wife Shelly are the parents of three young daughters. te derstandable. The three sophomores include Araceli Arana Ruiz, a returning letterman, Laura Camp, returning and Joni Davis, who was injured a good portion of last season. Ruiz finished eleventh in the region cross country championships and 104th in the nationals. She ran in two-tim- the Nations when she was four months pregnant.
