He has already had two runs from scrimmage that were 60 yards or more. Ellis took a rest from the basketball court last season but is expected to be ready and fit to play this winter. During the past summer, he and such players as Cory Sylvester, Dan Call, and Norm Hainey played in the d BCI of young guys playing for us, but Coach (Tom) Budge has us pepped up for the region race. He really has helped me a lot, I think hes a great coach. He's a team coach and is behind everyone, if you do what he says, hell bend over backwards for you, stated Ellis. The moments of glory on the gridiron have followed hours of preparation throughout the summer months. It wasnt an uncommon thing to find Ellis in Wildcat Stadium running the track at 6 a.m. full steam or even running up and down the bleachers. Bike riding was good for building leg muscles. Was there a motivator behind this scheme? Marvin says that his present teammate, Mike Smith, whether he knows it or not has been his main source of motivation. I knew Mike was going to be good running back and sometimes I thought Mike would be working out so that made me work all that harder, stated Ellis. tournament. Spring sports have been just as colorful for Ellis who has won the state long jump event for the past two years. His longest jump came as a sophomore, a measure of 21 feet 9V5i inches. As a junior he still won the event despite a pulled hamstring muscle. Injuries dont and have never really bothered me. Of course when I do get hurt, I take the doctors advice and try not to think about it. Last week I pulled a muscle in my shoulder during practice but its almost like new now, said Ellis. Ellis likes his teams chances for the Region One title this season and voiced it when he said. Weve got a lot mm .ft: s 7 f theyre learning fast. Weve been getting better with each game. Marvin loves to play football and cant stand to be off the field. After an explosive run the joy is short lived in Elliss mind. I try hard to forget the last play and want to be in there doing something else that would please the crowd and my teammates, said Ellis. A dream someday is to be able to perform for the University of Colorado and Church Fairbanks and then perhaps the ultimate, a spot with the Cowboys. Ellis enjoys people and even though he isnt big into the disco scene, you can find him where the people are and as he says, where the ladies are. this Ive had to apply a little more how on worked oh Ive year, says Ellis, Grades, them. If I wanted to play sports I knew I had to study and think a little less about girls. I guess Im doing pretty good now. The teachers at Bonneville have been great, I owe a lot to them I guess. Look out for the Lakers, says Marvin. That comes as a strong threat from the man who makes things happen in Bonneville waters. By Keith Duncan ..JUWpMtp ijw.VW SJ ...
