The money will be used to equipment" for the recently purchase DOUG SMITH, center, ' Because of an increase in the number of grass fires in the past week, Fire Chief Ken Hancock said strict measures will e taken. He indicated that residents need to obtain a written turning permit before burning any weeds in their yard. In he past, it wasnt necessary and residents would just call in to ask if they could. Now, in an effort to control this, and also to comply with regulations by the Health Department, a visual inspection by the department is also necessary. At this time a written burning permit will be issued if no adjacent structures could be tn danger or if it is a burn day as declared by the Health Department. This department calls the Roy Fire department every day at 9 a.m. and tells them if it is okay to burn within 'he city because of the air content for that day, Hancock said. "Its illegal to burn within the city without this permit, and were going to start issuing citations if people dont call us to come and inspect it, he said.
