Show Sun Chronicle Thursday, February 5, 1976 Page honors leaders at dinner District Gateway Recognition given for work The Gateway District, Boy Scouts of America, held its annual recognition dinner, Jan. 29 at the Hooper Utah Stake Center. District chairman P. Peter Meline said that adult leaders and their partners attended the dinner. Entertainment during the program was presented by the Knudsen Brothers from Provo and Mark and Steven Kelly from Salt Lake City. The opening ceremony wa ? under the direction of Rusty Sellers and assisted by Randy Duersch, Blake McMillian, Chris Stoker, Michael Sellers and Russell Stoker. The decorations were made by Russell Stoker assisted by Douglas Bills, Delos Hamblin , Edward Webb, and Michael 325 PROUDLY DISPLAYING their awards are (1. to r.) Mr. and Mrs. John Coffey, Mr. and Mrs. Max Oliver, Mr. and Mrs. Evan Lyman, Carolyn Stoker and her husband, and Mr. and Mrs. Vem Borgeson. Carolyn Stoker and husband from Clearfield Sellers. 110 packs and troops received awards. These represented work during 1975 in the areas of conservation, Americas Bicentennial Commemoration, Program Quality and Activity Awards. special award was presented to Harold Steed, president of Clearfield State Bank and Bill Turner for their support of the scouting program. During the past year they have presented every recipient of the Eagle Progress Award with a sppcial eagle neckerchief and two silver A dollars. Mr- - Mr. and Mrs. Vem Borgeson of Clearfield and Mrs- - The highlight of the evening came when five Scouters received the District Award of Merit, the highest award a district can present to an adult for distinguished service. Thirty years ago about 25 people under the direction of Dr. Rollo C. Speer started meeting in the cafeteria of the North Davis Jr. High after three years, the members, now about 250, purchased and remodeled an old army barracks building facing west on the present church site. In 1956 the present sanctuary was built, and the former sanctuary was connected to Christian Education use. The church was then directed by Reverand Harry Poe. In 1960 Rev. Walter Bishop was named pastor of the church. He was followed by Rev. Wiley A. Kehrli in 1967 thru 1974. The present pastor is Harley Hunt who came to Clearfield from Seattle, Wash 15 months ago.
