Well, if youre familiar with the family at all, you'd probably conclude with basketball. Yes, in the past half century or longer the Gardners around the state have exemplified themselves through athletics, with a good majority of them displaying their skills on the cage court. Gardner name is It also might be just to say that no other single family has done as much for basketball in the state of Utah than has the Gardners. And whether it be golf, softball, voilevball, football, table tennis or any sport for that matter, the Gardners have always shown a compelling sense to compete which reilects on their success. And as Lincoln Gardner savs, "I want a challenge to be announced to everyone. .Ynd Im speaking for all the Gardners as a whole; we would like to challenge any one family in the state, to a clean, fun game of basket ball, softball or any sport thats sensible to compete in. He was a debater in high school and at one time served on adMoss' Sen. Frank ministration cabinet. His brothers say he has read more books than all the family put together. Dan Gardner was probably one of Clearfield's guttiest athletes to ever wear a Falcon uniform. Kven though he ranks as one of the smallest members of family, he holds the high school's record for the high jump event. He was a playmaker at Clearfield for both the and basketball football teams; in fact a Gardner was the quarterback at the school for the next six years from that point on. Phil Gardner was hampered throughout most of his athletic career with a polio disease. But as Kenny his cousin remarked, "You couldnt ask for a better fan. It would seem like every game that I or one of his brothers were playing in, Phil would always be there rooting us on. Scott, his brother, says, "He's been the greatest fan this family has ever had." Phil is presently the manager of Roy's Pizza Hut. Greg, the next in line, fills a 220 lb. stature. He was big a Mr. Everything at Clearfield during his high school days. Greg will probably be the only Gardner ever to 6-- receive a sportsmanship award, because of his style on the court. Probably the best way to sum up Greg's best attributes is to sa, that whatever he lacked in pure talent, Greg made up for in desire and hustle. A true competitor. Local star Scott Gardner is probably the best pure shixiterof the family. He was a member of Clearfields consolation team in 1970, played two years of college ball at Arizona, and just finished his college career at Weber State. He recalls that playing at Arizona was the biggest thrill of his life to that point.
