The 48 youths, ages 15 through 18, have come from all over Utah to Dutch John where they are involved in an eight week working learning environmental program. The Corps youths spent two Park days at Browns Waterfowl Management Area assisting Superintendent Neil Folks capturing and banding geese They had a lesson on sexing geese and were given rides on the air boats after the banding operation was completed. The group also spent several days counting sage grouse with Division Con Officer Verl servation Hanchett and helped dismantle an elk trap on the Red Cloud Loop. The Corps members have spent most of the summer assisting with construction projects at Dutch John and building a fence around the state gas station. The youths also par ticipaled in an environmental educational program that included full recreational opportunities utilizing the natural Division environment personnel from the Northeastern Region presented a panel discussion to the group and explained Division programs. Wildlife films were also featured. The YCC is sponsored by the U.,S. Forest Service. The youths receive housing, meals and a small wage td Similar camps ,ir b over the United States, with youths of all races, incomes and educational backgrounds represented. |
