The junior varsity game will be at 6: 30 p.m. Logan, a team that was strong in the region last year should have a fair team according to Roy Head Coach Ted Smith. Two weeks ago the Grizzlies gave a very strong Provo team a good game, but last Friday the Loganites were downed by Clearfield 5 in the Davis County town. In any event, nearly all of the teams in region one appear to have a shot at the title, so the Royals expect a tough contest. Last week the Royals wound n action up their as they dumped South 8 on to and lost Tuesday Springville on Wednesday. Against South, the Royals 72-6- BARLOW OGDEN Logans Grizzlies 69-5- POLL. The Cubs tried a half-coupress at the start of the second period, but Roy broke it twice to take a 15-- 7 lead, and conto on score tinued breakaways. The score at half was 5 for the Royals. Coach Ted Smiths club was plagued by turnovers in the third period, but so was the South squad as Roy took a 0 lead into the final period. The Royals managed to stay semi-warduring the final period to ease to the victory. John Vanderwooden led all scorers with 25 points, but Roy more than offset that with fourplayers in double figures. rt 29-2- ... ' f -- ImH 23 hi If 13 . ... SAND RIDGE TEAM OOOOOGOGGOOOOOOGOGOGOOOOOOOOOOG Grizzlies visit RHS Friday; Royals take win over South ROY Miij Scorpions of Sand Ridge we have two of last seasons starters returning. Neil Cox at forward and Mark Kartchner at guard. They are ably supported by Rick Reese (who is a transfer this year from Germany) , Brian Fowler, Chris Jacobson and Mark Miller. Coach Miller has played and coached 20 years of service ball. He attended Weber State and is in his second year at Sand Ridge. Sports Sidelines OOOGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGGOOOOO Lonnie Hipwell and Kirt Miles led the squad with 14 each while Alan Sholted and Carl Arnold added 12 apiece. After Logan, the Royals will face Bear River and Weber before the sta:t of the new year. Alan Sholtec put in a good performance as did other members of the squad, and the free throws have been going in more than last last season which hurt the previous edition of the Royals in some key contests. 49-4- The regiop one basketball beam, and the Utah Stars are back in first place in the Western Division of the ABA. The Stars took wins over San Diego at home Friday and ct Denver Saturday to regain first place. Maybe, just majoe, the Stars are starting to get it together after a shaky start under Joe Mullaney. Stop into the Salt Palace, the show is great, and the basketball is the best in the world. AAA A A The Baltimore Colts did in the Miami Dolphins, the Kanwere sas City Chiefs Tuesday by a 2 score in a student assembly in the CHS gymnasium. Roy got off to a fast start, but the CHS grap-pler- s rallied to control the middle and heavier weight classes. Roy finished 8th in the state last year, and Clearfield finished 9th. The two schools are strong rivals, and its too bad the two schools couldnt hav ' met last year when Roy sent ten strong wrestlers in to the state finals and won the region one championship while Clearfield was going undefeated and won the region two title. 38-1- race gets underway this Friday as six teams face each other in three games. Locally, the Roy Royals will go up against the Logan Grizzlies in a home contest at 7:30 p.m. The Royals have been up and n acdown so far in tion, and li looks like if they could jell, they would be a contender for the crown. Logan' has been the same way, having given Provo a real good game two weeks ago, then losing to a Clearfield squad that doesnt have as much talent as last year when they finished fourth in the region. Provo is expected to give everybody trouble this year, and i picked by many as the team to beat for the state title. eliminated, the Pittsburgh Steelers are back, the Dallas Cowboys are still alive, and the Denver Broncos still have a great shot at the playoffs were the big news in pro football this week. Things are starting to come to the close of the regular season, and a lot of playoff sopt are still undecided. It should be exciting the next few weeks. Maybe the meet marked che renewal of a two school rivalry that saw fights and troubles between the Royals and Falcons. There is a chance that the two schools could meet in football next fall !
