(And generally they put up more fuss than any two-year-ol- But, who on the other hand, while quite sympathetic to his wives ills and ailments, still expects dinner on the table and cant understand why the dishes arent done and his shirts not ironed. Well, so far this week my life has been a total disaster ... my dishes arent done, the beds not made, and there are clothes in the dryer just sitting there. Saturday night my husband decided to take a better look at our Siamese cats kittens. About a week ago she moved them from her box to the back of my clothes dryer. I guess she felt they would be safe there because it would be difficult to get to them ... but nothing next to impossible can stop my husband when he puts his mind to it. 2 He proceeded to pull the dryer out about inches from the wall and leaned over the back. His arms werent quite as long as he thought and he reached a little further ... not quite enough ... stretch some more. Then his fingers reached the first fluffy victim of his search ... and it happened! If cnly I would have had a camera ready and could have stopped laughing long enough to take a snapshot of what was happening. He was yelling for help ... he had made it down ... but he couldnt make it back up. He looked pretty nlly or rather he did from his knees down because that was all you could see. An acrobat couldnt 1. 've put on a better performance ... hanging there from the dryer ... trying to hold on to the kitten ... balancing himself so as not to fall further and still maintaining some degree of pride. The next day I took some April-fres- h smelling clothes from the washer and put them in the dryer. Not leaving well enough alone, I decided to try and get one of the kittens. I pulled the dryer out a little further from the wall, jumped up on top and slid down behind it. Standing in back T rparhpH for thp four-week-o- ld 10-1- T. tV" J by Pat Sutter, editor four little kittens and placed them in a box waiting on a nearby cabinet. Mission completed, I lifted myself up, climbed back on top the dryer, turned around and jumped down... sudden pain. I stood for a minute hoping it would go away ... but it didnt. Now it was my turn to call for help. Neil carried me into thp living room, took off my shoe and sock and gazed at the already swelling ankle. What to do next? Hot or cold? Neil got the warm water ... I got the medical book. Do not apply heat immediately after sprain. Neil takes away warm water brings back cold. it certainly was easier imin foot heated water rather than mersing my Br-r-r-- r, icy-col- d. Elevate foot ... immobilize. That means keep off your feet but have you ever tried running doing that with a through the house? Wheres my shoes, Ma? Hey, Mom I got my clothes all wet watering the lawn ... but Mom, Im just fixing peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for six f ns . we want to have a picnic! My husband was a big help for about as long as it took for his Good Samaritanism to wear off and for the Los Angeles Lakers to come on. Its like talking to a wall when Jerry West, Wilt Chamberlain and Sharmans other boys move onto the floor. Sit back and relax ... I only have three and a half more quarters to go and maybe then I could have a glass of water, or my lunch, or the ice pack changed. Its difficult enough trying to compete with the Lakers when Im in good health, let alone sitting the game out ... on the bench ... with an injury. You dont hear Bill Goodrich complaining if he sprains his ankle. The games over and I get his undivided attention ... until the Utah Stars walk onto the floor. I decide to give up ... after all its just a little sprain. I should be able to function almost as well, only a little slower. 1 certainly dont hop as well as I walk, but then theres dishes to do, beds to make and those clothes are still in the dryer. A womans work is never done (just ask any man) and it shouldnt be hampered by a little injury. Why I bet Willie near-six-year-o- Wico umilrlnf 1 ld if cf nt Viim 1 |
