The resolution was passed in answer to confusion as to whether this type of tire falls under the studded tire ban made permanent by the Commission Sept. 24, 1971 After reviewing tests conducted by qualified testing which showed the agencies coils do not cause significant wear to highway surfaces and in light of the fact that this type of tire has been used in Utah for more than 20 years, mainly on larger vehicles, the Commission took action to permit the use of coils. Embedded coils, unlike studs, do not protrude except when a turning or braking force causes them to deflect. In addition the coils wear down with the surface of the tread because they are made of softer metal than the stud. These coils however, must not exceed 0.075 inches in diameter My Straight, Let There Peace on Earth, Christ- mas Chopsticks, Rudolph. ojfo)jf ojilfo Robbins.
