J v A traffic to the area is a safety hazard. NUMBER THREE: The road winds and has at least one sharp, downhill turn, as shown in the accompanying photo. Three problems have been outlinf 1. In view of these problems, lets determine the effectiveness of the Roy City solution to widen the road. Widening the road will solve problem number one. A wider road would allow a school bus to manage to drive down the road. The road, according to LaMar Nelson, public works director of Roy City, will be widened nine feet. Problems two and three will not be phased the by proposed solution. Another solution would dissolve all three problems in one swipe. Instead of widening 2075 W., build a new road. Its not as complicated as it might sound at first. Picture yourself just entering Roy Highs parking lot heading north. Keep going, and instead of running into a fense and grassy road. field, you are traveling on a black-toppe- d This is the route buses would travel. After letting Roy High School students off, the bus would go directly to Sand Ridge Junior High. The road would be wide enough to accomodate the traffic. The road would not be an area where children might be caught unawares by extra traffic. And third, the proposed road would not have a sharp turn, with z steep downhill grade at the same time. This proposal was considered at one time rejected because it was felt that home owners along the proposed street would capitalize on available funds and have the city or the school board who owns the property build their fences along such a throughway. This argument is no longer valid. A is needed. During the winter a school bus collided with a Luck. On the final turn off on 2075 W. into the junior high parking lot, there is a steep downhill grade. The probability of further accidents of this nature is very high. Steps to assure safety and a regular flow of traffic need to begin now before widening of 2075 W. is begun and considered the only necessary action. and m. m 'n"n"t'y ' street will accommodate traffic not wider than 36 feet. A street 36 feet wide will not handle traffic that includes three cars and a bus. Such a street is located at 4600 S. 2075 W., Roy. With a car parked on each curb, a school bus can just get through, UNLESS it meets another car coming down the street. Then we have what is commonly called a mess. Roy City officials recognize that the problem of school buses traveling to Sand Ridge Junior High must drive through the residential area, on 2075 West. Their solution to the problem is to widen the street, which is scheduled for such work this summer. A more appropriate solution to the problem with a wider degree of efficiency, should be considered. The first step in such an operation is to outline the problems. NUMBER ONE: School buses cannot easily get through 2075 W. due to the width of the street. NUMBER TWO: This is a residential area, consequently the area houses large numbers of children.
