When life becomes that calm, you better check for a heartbeat because Kanab will truly be starting to die due to a lack of interest and the failure to cultivate what it takes to keep it alive. The general downturn in tourism is the reason businesses have n record-breakin- moved out of Kanab, not our problems with closed roads. Job opportunities were permanently removed with the closure of the mills. Not everybody can or wants to work for one of the government entities that make up such a large part of work force. Best Friends hires a lot of people, but not everyone cares to work in an animal sanctuary either. Ifyou dont have a family member who owns a successful business here and can give you employment, you must look elsewhere. This is sad because it causes the loss of young families and older people do enjoy the chance to see and interact with little children. Most of us who have moved here have left grandchildren behind . With retirees moving here in such large numbers, it would seem that it behooves the powers that be to investigate how similar areas deal with it and what kinds of businesses they have that provide both employment and services to this growing segment of the population. As we all know, it isnt going to get smaller with all the baby boomers heading into retirement. I suggest the new city council members encourage the entire council to do some investigating of how they handle this situation in, say Idaho, I hear they are being inundated with silver hairs as well. , ; I.
