Show Sports Cowboys split with Millard two runs in the top of the first. By Dennis Brunner Kanab The Cowboys split a Cody Brunner led off with a doubleheader with Millard last single. After the next two batTuesday afternoon, taking the ters made outs, Clay Greenland first game 5-- then losing, the hit safely and Josh Douglass second game on a two-ru- n walked to load the bases. Matt error in the bottom of the final Rhees came up with a big two-ru- n inning. Ironman Mace Glazier single. Chris Aziz reloaded both the bases with an infield hit, but games, throwing pitched 1, 7-- 6, 12 innings total. In the opener, Kanab scored five runs on seven hits with only one error. Glazier held the Eagles to one run on four hits. Clay Greenland knocked in two runs and had two hits to lead the offense. Kanab opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when leadoff Cody Brunner walked, advanced to second on a passed ball, and scored on a Shaye Jackson single. Later in the inning, Mace Glazier walked, stole second, went to third on a single by Greenland, and scored on a fielders choice by Josh Douglass. Millard scored their only run of the game in the top of the third when their 8 hitter led off the inning with a single. A walk had runners on first and second when Millard pulled a double steal to move them up to second and third. After a Glazier strikeout, Millard scored a run on a ground out. Kanab put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the inning. Greenland led off with a walk. He advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on a single by Clinton Dowse. After a fly ball for an out, Danny Crosby got on base on an error to move Dowse to second. He scored on a hit by Matt Rhees to give Kanab a 1 lead. Glazier shut down Millard the next two innings, including three strikeouts in the top of the fifth. Kanab scored another run in the bottom of the fourth when Greenland drilled a shot to the gap in right center. When the outfielder missed the cutoffman for a play at third, Greenland came flying home to make it Millard left two runners on base in the top of the sixth and wasted a leadoff triple in the seventh inning before Glazier buckled down and once again struck out the side to end the game with Kanab on top Glazier ended the game with 11 strikeouts, while giving up only one walk. Besides Greenlands two hits, Shaye Jackson also had two singles. Dowse, Rhees and Chris Aziz had the other Cowboy hits. Coach Mike Walker decided Glazier looked so good, he gave him the ball for the second game, this one a five inning contest. Millard was the home team for the second game. Kanab got on the scoreboard early, plating 4-- one-two-thr- ee 5-- 1. a strikeout stranded three runners. Millards first three batters in the bottom of the first inning ended up scoring. Their leadoff ' was hit by a pitch. The second batter drilled a double to score one run. He came in to score on a single by the 3 hitter, the third run scored on a ground out to give the Eagles a 2 lead after one. The Cowboys bounced right back with two more in the top of the second. David Pepper singled to start the inning. A groundout advanced him to second and he scored on a single by Shaye J ack-soMace Glazier was walked, then Greenland hit by a pitch to 3-- n. load the bases. A walk to Douglass brought in the second run of the inning. Two infield popouts stranded anther three runners. Millard scored two runs in the bottom of the inning without the benefit of a hit to retake the lead A grounder to the pitcher and a strikeout by Glazier gave Kanab two quick outs. However Glazier beaned the next three batters to load the bases. One run scored on a wild pitch and the second one came in when third baseman Danny Crosby missed a pickoff throw from catcher Matt Rhees. Kanab came back once again to score two rims in the top ofthe Afthird to retake the lead secter one out, Pepper got his ond hit of the game. He came around to score when Brunner drilled one off the 375 foot sign in dead centerfield for a double. Brunner came in to score on another single by Jackson. After Glazier was hit by a pitch, two flyouts ended the inning, this time leaving two on base. Glazier gave up a single and a walk in the third but escaped the' inning by picking off the funner at second base. In the 5-- 4. 6-- 5. fourth, Kanab shut Millard down one-two-thre- e. Kanab left two more on base in the top ofthe fifth. Pepper led off with a walk and Brunner picked up his third hit of the game to put runners on first and second. Two fly balls and a strikeout ended their last threat, but Kanab still led 5 heading into the bottom of the fifth. For the game, 10 baserunners were stranded, in only five innings. Millard led off the final inning with a single just beyond the reach of first baseman Chris Aziz. The second batter was hit by a pitch, the sixth Eagle that Glazier beaned in the game. They advanced to second and third on a dribbler down the third base line that Glazier fielded and threw to first. With one out, the next batter hit a hard one hopper to third. Danny Crosby fielded it cleanly, but hesitated, looking to first then realizing the runner at third was breaking for home, he threw home. Unfortunately, the throw was wide of home plate and the tying run scored. While catcher Matt Rhees was chasing down the ball, a Millard runner came in to score all the way from second base to give the Eagles the victory Mace Glazier gave up only three hits, two in the first inning and one in the final inning. In a yeomans effort, he struck out three and issued only one walk, but did hit six Millard batters. Leadoff Cody Brunner led the offensive attack with three hits, including a double, scoring twice and knockingin one. Shaye Jack-so- n went two for four, with two RBIs and one run scored. David Pepper scored twice on two hits and one walk. Matt Rhees went two for three with two RBIs. Clay Greenland and Chris Aziz got the other Cowboy hits, as Kanab outhit Millard 1 1 to three. The 10 runners left on base hurt big time as this game should have not have come down to the final at bat.
