According to Russ Keller, Kanab district scout leader, the responsibility of tending to these flags typically rotates between eight different scout troops. But during the Iraq war a number of residents, including Keller himself and a number of local businesses, have volunteered as block captaihs or stewards of the flags which line main streets daily with the flags. According to flag protocol they should be set up one half-hoafter sunrise, then put away one half hour before sunset. For the flag stewards, those hours require a certain degree ofdedication to their roles as block captains, but folks like Keller are willing and happy to be a part of it. Mayor Lawson noted that regardless of anyones position on the war in Iraq, all would agree in the purpose of flying the flags, to show support for our troops in the Gulf Region. The flags will continue to wave seven days a week, according to Mayor Lawson, until President Bush declares a resolution. Parties interested in sharing as block captains should contact Sandy Fox at the Kanab City administrative offices at (435) 4 or write to kanabcxpressweb.com. ur respon-sibiliti- 644-253- -- - 1 es |
