And its never too early to teach your children that there are laws controlling their use. -- 0 In talking to Dale Hepworth, of the Cedar City District of the DWR, he feels that 'hey got a good kill on the Minersville Reservoir, thougii ;!.e poisoning was accomplished under the worst of conditions. The major poisoning, most ofthe nearly 30,000 pounds of rotenonc was mixed, heated and dumped in the reservoir Wednesday, October 17, during the worst snow storm of the year, to date. -- 0 Hepworth said that Wildlife personnel treated the slews and tributaries from Beaver City down, before the main poisoning on Wednesday, and then kept hot chemical entering the lake from near Adamsville until Saturday. Despite the fact that the reservoir had more water than at any previous poisoning, he felt that there was a good kill. While the banks were lined with chubs, there were few trout that showed up. Hepworth said, that was due to cold water, probably the trout and most of the chubs had sank to the bottom. How good a job was done will probably not be known until after the reservoir is restocked and opened for fishing next year. We have all heard the phrase You are your own worst enemy! And perhaps often we are. We tend to measure ourselves against those we admire and unfortunately we measure ourself at our worst and others at their best. Fishing is great now for right stripers, large mouthed bass and occassional crappie all over the lake, says Wayne Gustaveson, DWR project leader at Lake Powell. "In the Wahweep area, hungry stripers are actively feeding on the surface during the early morning hours. Stripers school up and actually herd schools of threadfin shad. They then move through the school feeding voraciously, often jumping out ofthe water in their feeding frenzy. The boils generally occur in open water of a bay or canyon. Theyre more common in the morning, but can occur throughout the day, suggests Gustaveson. The upper portions of the lake are providing excellent fishing as well.
