He said they hope to have the Four Ormat Binary Turbines in production by the end at the year. He said he was pleased with negotiations with Utah Power and Light to wheel the First power to Provo City. He indicated negotiations were in the final stages and the agreement should be signed very soon. He said that present projections are to add 10 more megawatts in 1980 and 10 more in 198G. Present testing has not indicated how extensive the geothermal field is but they expec t the potential to be between 100 and 200 megawatts. He said Beaver County could expert approximately employees in the initial phase, and that for each additional 10 megawatts an additional five employees. ire said MFI wants to be responsible citizens and neighbors, and in this vein a citizens committee will lie be set up to work with Mfl and have imput into the development. Mr I is a family corporation, but while they are lookingfor investors, he indicated the risk was still so great that he was looking for large investors who could afford the risk. Asked if MFI might go with stock later he replied that this was a a while. possibility, but it would He said that the agreement with Provo ( lty gave MFI the boost it needed to get started. And we got lucky with the First hole, and hit a dry steam well. Probably dumb luck, but he gave redit to the site selection to Jack Barnett. MEI plans several more wells this year to test the reservoir perimeters. Both Olga's Well (the discovery well which has been redrilled) and Lady Linda are presently being tested, and Portenova invited Beaver and Millard Countyites who are interested to tour the facilities Saturday. He told them to expect the smell of rotten eggs, but that H2S gas which had added to the problems on the first well that blew out, was insignificant and that it was safe to tour the pad and watch the wells blow pure steam . He said that MEI is looking into several off shoot industries which will probably provide more employment than production of electricity. Included are a mushroom plant, hydroponics, fish farms and greenhouses. However, the skys the limit, because so many industries require cheap heat, and there will be plenty, even after the steam is used for production of electricity. He said it cost $1,750,000 to cap the discovery well, and they had to redrill it. The two production wells are approximately 250 feet apart. Wed like to drill at least three more in the same general area. Jack Barnett explained a typical geothermal field uslngtextbookpic-ture- s, but noted that they still didnt know just what the Sulphurdale reservoir looked like. He explained the Geothermal Act of 1970 and how KGRAs were identified.
