Show ; V i wi to stey n mu m The Milford High School Tigers got off to a good start in the Regional Round Robin Tournament by beating Wayne County High School 74 to 64 on Friday night and then lost a very tough contest to Bryce Valley High School 66 to 54. Both games were hard fought down to the last second. The Tigers jumped out on the Badgers from Wayne County early but let them get back into the game in the second quarter. Wayne held the hot hand in the first half shooting a sizzling 58.3 percent. The score at half time was 34 to 32 in the favor of the Tigers. On the most part, the second half was all Milford. Steadily but surely, the Tigers pulled away from Wayne to as much as sixteen points. Then the game became a free throw shooting contest. It took nearly forty minutes to play the last four minutes and twenty-si- x seconds of the contest. Wayne County took most of these charity tosses but Milford shot enough to win the game by ten. Even though the score may indicate that there was not much defense, this would not be true as about a third or even more of the points came from the free throw line for both teams. Individually, it was John Dotson, Mark Yardley, and Todd Williams who led the offense. Dotson sank six field goals and twelve of sixteen free throws for a total of 24 points. Yardley dropped in six field goals and eight of twelve from the charity stripe for a total of twenty points. Williams hit on five of ten from the floor for ten points. Patterson, Sullivan, and Gay contributed eight and isx points respectively. The Tigers dominated the boards and were led by John Dotson with a season high of 25 and Mark Yard-le- y with 14. Teamwise, Milford controlled the glass by a score of 61 to 33. Williams gained 15 saves and eight assists which contributed to some of the scores on offense. The Tigers took sixty-on- e shots from the floor and made twenty-fiv- e for a 41 and were twenty-foof thirty-si- x from the free throw line for 66. The following afternoon, Milford took on a very strong Bryce Valley team, a team which gave Beaver High School its only loss of the season. For most of three quarters, the Tigers played pretty even with Bryce Valley. Until the fourth quarter, they were never behind more than six to seven and most of the time, it was below five. For Bryce Valley, it was a combination of two stalwarts that even -tually did the Tigers in. These were Ott who tallied for twenty-fiv- e and Thompson who put through The two combined twenty-nin- e. for 54 of their total team 66 points. Milfords Dotson and Yardley tried to match these two and although they came close, with Dot-so- n and obtaining twenty-seve- n ur MIXED COMPANY: But 65 Bryan Wood is used to the thin air, and takes this rebound without a hand layed on it. Del Myers is the other Beaver and Bobcats are Lawrence Orton and Heath Sartini. Yardley receiving eighteen, it was not enough. It was a hard earned victory for Bryce Valley, but nevertheless, it was a victory. From the field, Milford could field goals only manage twenty-on- e in fifty-si- x attempts for 37. They were much better from the charity stripe where they collected twelve of fifteen for 80. They were out rebounded by Bryce Valley 43 to 33. The Tigers are down but certainly not out. They will strive for fourth place in the Region Twelve Tournament by taking on Pangultch next Thursday at 11:45. A win over Panguitch will insure them a spot In the State Tournament a chance at winning it all. This could still happen; however, they must get there first and are still very much alb'e in their efforts. Panguitch certainly does not have an Ott or a Thompson among their personnel. With continued good effort from all of the Tigers including their followers, they should represent the great town of Milford in the State Tournament which would be the first time in four years. clears the boards for a shot in the Bryce Valley game. Thane Marshall turned in 14, Keith Stucki 8, Chad Blackburn 4, Bret Christiansen 2, Rod McMullin 2 and Chad Limb 1. For the Bobcats, Davis was the only one in double figures with 10. It was a relatively foul free game compared to the other games in the opening weekend. Beaver tossed ill 8 of 17 from the charity stripe while Panguitch hit 5 of 13.
