An invitation also accompanied the tree inviting Mrs Johnson to attend an Arbor Day Ceremony to be held in Salt Lake City in April which would climax a and beautification program in our city. Senator Frank E. Moss (D. Utah) accompanied Miss Manz when the tree presentation was made last week, and Miss Patsy Derby, one of the assistants to the First Lady in the National Beautification Program, received the blue spruce for Mrs. Johnson. In December, the Oakridge School sponsored a cookie campaign" and students were asked to bake a batch of cookies which would be sent by special aircraft to servicemen in Viet Nam. Along with her package of cookies, which she carefully packed in popcorn as instructed by the school, Tracy also included a Christmas Card and wrote a message on it thanking the fighting men for what they were doing for her and the free world in trying tobrmg about peace. None of the students at Oakridge knew who would receive their cookies and notes, and Virginia Bazz, second grade student, was the first to receive a reply from a letter that accompanied her cookies. Her letter was received shortly after Christmas and was signed by Pvt. Dwain E. Sjostrom who was stationed on the Vietnamese mainland.
