It happened that Holladay and Granite, arch rivals during the whole of the high school season and the summer American Legion program, opened 1965 play versus each other. It was a repeat from last year. Granite won the opener but watched Holladay battle back to third while the Skyline, Highland, Holladay and Granite were among the Salt Lake County entries along with Valley League champions West, Granger and South. Granitians placed second behind champions Clearfield. Holladay s Ken Price, relying heavily on the talented right arm of Brent Walker, faces one of its toughest battles. Holladay is one .of the recent Legion wmningest teams - having won titles three times in the past six Records were respectable for each of the four teams. Skyline, paced by coach Orson Bailey and manager Glen Brown, utilised the all encompassing talents of the talented George Theodore to compile a 4 won-lo- st mark. Skyline's effort was good for second place and their pitching staff makes them a threat for '65 Legion honors though the Skyline nine must get past tough Clearfield in third-da- y play should they keep a winners bracket berth. vears 17-- The Holladay brain trust of scoremaster Ken Price, Farnsworth and team manager George North will have some surprises when the final half of the tourney arrives. Johnny Erickson, team taskmaster and tactician, is certain to play an active part in the Hollad.iv try for State Legion title ,V 4 Granite shared its fourth place slot with South. The Granite team with Don Mayne and Frank (Sheik) Caputo in the driver's seat must be a considered contender. Granite's dedicated Duane Christensen, team manager, is the steadying influence of the team. Christensen is expected to suit up" come tourney time despite an illness that has hampered his attending to every concern of the team. We need the guy," Mayne reports earnestly. Highland pulled somewhat of surprise when it downed Judge and won spot No. 6 in the tourney. The Highland team was hampered all season by roster problems. But Glen Kilpatrick has Duane Gustafson ready and his club could be a tournament surprise. The guidance of S C. (Clay) Mills is certain to add to the chances of the Highland club.
