Whatever became of the fans with the Bible pictures on them that used to be used in church? It must have been disconcerting to talk to a group, half of whom were waving things in the air, but those little fans certainly made you feel cooler. Nowadays, we depend on electric fans or window air conditioners to keep a house cool. Many people install complete air conditioning throughout the house, making it a more pleasant place to be in on hot days. Children, especially, appreciate this. I once had a friend who finally had to turn her air conditioning off every day to get all the neighborhood children to go home. Lightweight, loose fitting clothing is the coolest. Women come out best in summer time. They can slide into a shift and a pair of sandals and take off, free as a bird, while a poor man is still weighted down with pounds of shoes, a tight belt, and a stranglers tie around his neck.
