She was born Nov. 24, 1893 at Moroni, Sanpete County, a daughter of Jacob Albert and Hannah Olson Cloward. Married Vern Henry Allred Dec. 17, 1913 in Salt Lake City. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. He died July 20, 1962. They lived in Blue Eagle, Nev., and Roosevelt and Ogden, Utah. Her children and grandchildren remember her as a good mother, a hard working ranch and farm wife, for good pies and chicken and dumplings and other good food, and for beautiful meticulous and needlework. She was active in Relief Society and Primary in the Church of Saints and Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. From the farm in Ballard she and her husband moved to Ogden in the 1940s because of his health. Later they returned to the Uintah Basin and built a home in Roosevelt. After his death, she lived with her daughter, Lola A. Sessions, in Ogden for several years until her age and infirmity occasioned her becoming a resident of Sunshine Terrace the past two years. She is survived by a daughter, Lola A. Sessions of Ogden and three sons, Jack L. Allred of Roosevelt; Glen E. Allred of Vernal and J.R. Allred of Hyde Park. Her oldest son, Dee Vern Allred, preceded her in death. She had 24 grandchildren and 69 great grandchildren. Funeral services were at Olpin Mortuary in Roosevelt Saturday, Dec. 14, at noon. Unfortunately, theyre also full of danger-li- ke the hazard posed by dry, combustible Christmas trees decorated to the hilt with unapproved lights and Yuletide trim. The combination of parched trees, faulty bulbs and overloaded extension cords, all within close proximity of the living room woodstove or fireplace, has resulted in tragedy during the happy holiday season. According to the Vernal Fire Department, last year many injuries during this time of the year were directly attributable to Christmas trees. In fact, the most serious hazard in natural trees is fire caused by of trunk and highly comdrying-ou- t bustible pine needles. While metal trees present no particular fire hazard, they can be the cause of electrical shock when electric lights are attached. So care must be taken with the fake trees as well. Tree decorations are another source of potential injury. Broken ornaments often cause cuts, and small ornaments or ornament parts can be easily swallowed by young children Additionally, many streamers and tinsel products are combustible. The Vernal Fire Department claims all Christmas greenery, if dried out, can burst into flames when a lighted match, cigarette or candle is nearby. The department warns against the placement of candles amid dry greenery or near flammable furnishings such as curtains and table cloths. Also remember that certain popular Christmas greenery, such as mistletoe, yew and holly berries, are toxic if ingested by small children. To make sure your holidays are both happy and safe, Ashley Valley Medical Center and the Vernal Fire Department would like you to bear the following tips in mind: Buy a fresh Christmas tree; one that is green is less prone to burn. A green trees needles are hard to pull off and wont snap when you bend them. Keep the tree a good distance from any source of fire in the home. Decorate your tree with approved lights and noncombustible or trimmings. It is best to use only safety-testelights (those carrying the UL or other qualified label). Never string more than three sets of light cords in a series. Any outdoor lights should have approved, waterproof connectors. merry-makin- g UNIT - WATER PETITIONS Quantity In homes with small children, trim- Community Relations our many friends that paid last respects and love to our dear husband, father and grandfather, Victor Lester Bingham. Both the wrappings and tree burn very rapidly and very hot, increasing chimney heat to dangerous levels. Also, the burning ashes may be carried out of the chimney and onto the roof. Check smoke detector batteries If you dont have a smoke detector, buy yourself an early Christmas present, it could save your familys life. Trees will be less likely to burn if they are kept outside as long as possible. Once inside, their butt end should be cut off to expose fresh wood and the base should be kept in water at all times. Always dispose of your tree as soon as needles begin to fall off in large quantities. Finally, if your homemade ornaments are not fireproof them with a preservative of one cup ammonium sulfate, one-hacup boric acid, two tablespoons borax and eight tablespoons of three percent hydrogen peroxide. Spray this over the tree and pour some into the cup at the base of the tree. Spray all homemade decorations. (This chemical preparation is HARMFUL is ingested, however, so keep it away from children ) Make your holiday observance a memorable one for all the right reasons.
