Show 6 Vernal Express Friday, September 13, 1985 Vernal 1st Ward has mother and daughter banquet Vernal 1st Ward had a mother and daughter banquet Wednesday, Sept. 4. The tables were decorated with to floating flower centerpieces enhance the theme of the evening, weddings. Over forty wedding gowns belonging to members of the ward were displayed dating from 1945 to the pre- sent. LEADERS AND speakers at the Vernal Area Womens Conference held Sept. 7 were, left to right, ReNae Labrum, counselor; Wylene Fother-inghaspeaker from the Relief society General Many of the original head pieces and flowers were also displayed. An international meal was served buffet style. During the evening the mothers designed wedding gowns from paper napkins and pinned them on their daughters which produced some interesting and unusual results, according to the guests. A program of readings appropriate to the theme were read by Connie Haslam, Mickey and Melba Allred, with Analiese Calder playing a violin Board; Leisel McBride, speaker and family counselor; Shelia Belcher, Ashley Stake Relief Society President and Debbie Clark, counselor. draws crowd of 600 Love and The Circle of a Womans Reach. A string ensemble under the direction of Catharine Overson with Linda Hanberg, Cindy Gale, Barbara Faust, Becky Allred and Julie Walton as members, played the prelude and postlude. Special committees for the conference were Pat Campbell and Janet Wallis, publicity; Shelia Belcher, luncheon; RoJean Bassett and Zola Hanberg, tickets; LuRae Caldwell and RaNae Labrum, music; and Mary Lou ' " Burton, programs. Millie Williams was chairman of the decorating committee with Sherry Pilcher, Leta Sullivan, Deborah Clark, Cleone Merkley, Janis Bigelow, Patty Hardinger, Holli Judd and Sonja Seeley assisting. The chapel and cultural nail were tastefully decorated with peach floral arrangements, backdrops and several copies of Dwana Wardens painting of eternal progression. Small statues of the Nauvoo Monuments to Women decorated one side of the front with a live depiction of the W'oman in Prayer done by Jackie Cook on the other side. Gifts for the speakers were made by Carolene Mackay, Asena Smith and Beth Murphy. Greeters were Ashley Stake Ward Relief Society Presidents and Stake Board members. Womens Conference Over 600 women attended the Vernal Area Womens Conference held September 7 at the Ashley Stake Center.. Special guest speakers included Debbie Hamilton, author and composer of the song The Circle of a Womans Reach. She has performed two albums of her songs with the London Philharmonic and band selections from the albums during the luncheon part of the conference. After lunch she spoke about her life and the inspiration behind many of her songs. On Friday evening, Mrs. Hamilton presented a concert for the area PTA at the Vernal Junior High School. Wife of Jay Hamilton and mother of five with another one on the way, Debbie claims she is just a mother who writes songs. Other speakers were Wylene H. Fotheringham, Relief Society General Board member, who opened the conference with a spiritual address on the theme Seek for the highest that is in you. She was followed by a talk on self worth by Leisel McBride, lecturer and family counselor. Conducting the conference was Shelia Belcher, President of the Vernal Utah Ashley Stake LDS Relief Society. Introducing the speakers were her counselors, RaNae Labrum and Deborah Clark. Janet Wallis, general chairman, presented the conference theme.
