Show AssociatedTkehive Seed Growers Of The Uintah Basin from the Marlette Leader of Marlette, The following letter Michigan, is of interest to every Uintah Basin Alfalfa Seed Grower: re-print- ed Former Marlette Boy Compliments Co. Agt. Chicago, Illinois, December 5, 1927. Marlette Leader, Marlette, Michigan, Gentlemen: I believe it may be of interest to a number of yanr readers to know that Mr. John Martin, Sandusky,. Mich., County Agricultural Agent, Sanilac county, won the County Agent Contest for Michigan, in a Stqie and Inter-- & state contest, conducted by the Associated Bee Hive Seed Growers of Utah. As a reward for promoting the proper and increased use of alfalfa, the Associated Bee Hive Seed Growers, offered to the winning county Agent in each y of eight middle western States, a trip to Chicago with expenses paid, dur- ing the time of the International Stock and Grain Show. In each state the winning County Agent was selected by the State 'Extension Department and so the choice represents a disinterested selection on the basis of ability and results only. As the representative of the Associated Bee Hive Seed Growers of Utah, I have had the pleasure this past week of entertaining your County Agricultural Agent, Mr. John Martin. five-da- There were many important Seed anfl Crop Investment Association meetings going on, which Mr. Martin had the opportunity to attend, which, I hope, he found of benefit to his work. Sanilac County is to be complimented on 'having a County Agent and an organization capable of placing first in a state in which there was a lot of competition for this honor. The fact that there was a good deal of competi- tion in the State is indicated by the fact that the judges of Interstate Contest the eight States, placed Michigan among the top three with Iowa, and Kansas, as the states having the best State Campaign. This placing among the top three, gives Mr. L. B. Kurtz, Extension Agronomist, East Lansing, Michigan, a two weeks trip through the Seed Producing districts of Utah, Idaho Montana. , As I was bora and raised near Marlette, Mich, it is especially gratifying to me to see my old home county win out in this contest It is also a great tribute to to find its increased use under Such a diversity of conditions. I can well realfalfa, member that only about 10 years ago most people thought Saailas county was too flat to grow alfalfa.
