DRIVER MAKES LEAP FOR LIFE PILOT SPRANG AS TRAIN HIT WAGON AND LANDED IN SAFETY ON locomotive trover N J A daring leap from the seat of his wrecked wagon to the pilot of a swift moving locomotive saved 18 year old ernest powers from landed on the P lot death the other day on the high bridge of the central railroad of new jersey powers who is employed by a dov er grocer was driving a delivery wagon over the union street crossing when a swiftly moving ore train bo e down on him the lad did not notice the train on account of another wag on which was just then crossing the tracks from the opposite direction for a moment be got excited nd tried to turn back the locomotive the of the wagon but as it did so powers recovered his pres ence of and jumped he landed on the pilot or cow catch er ol 01 the locomotive nd clung there with desperate energy the wagon had been smashed to pieces and he horse tossed to one side and when the engineer brought the train to a standstill young bowers was still on the p lot he was suffering froin shock but was otherwise unharmed
