Show The Utah Statesman Wednesday March 10 1982 Campus life is easier because of these groups Before the last books are closed on another academic a number quarter The Utah Statesman wants to commend of groups for their work at USU The list is not comprehensive Certainly there are many the groups which have made significant contributions to few months in the past campus But The Statesman believes these few groups should reteive a little extra recognition for the roles they’ve plaed in making life a little easier for students And theya should take this recognition as a compliment and as charge to continue serving the campus community So The Statesman sends its congratulations to: The ASL'SU Book Exchange The exchange continues to function as a fair and welcome service to the students of USU Many hours of volunteer labor are provided to keep the exchange in operation and through it students are able to buy and sell expensive textbooks on their own terms The Logan City Police Department It listened to student opinions this year and began to take steps to improve safetv on 7th North Thanks to the department's responsiveness the street is no longer used as a parking lot while other facilities sit unused The USU admissions and records department It has spent the last several quarters steadily improving the While the procedures s stems students use for registration are not perfect and more changes should still lie made the department has made noticeable improvements in the quarterly registration process The USU administrators who worked with the Utah State Legislature this year USU didn’t get as much funding from the Legislature as it would have liked But vs hat was appropropriated for the Logan campus came as a pleasant surprise to many And the relative success enjoyed by the university is due largely to some dedicated administrative work The “Eight is Enough” students They waged a s campaign that worked The Board of Regents and the Legislature heard their opinions and this year’s predictable tuition hike was kept from soaring out of sight All those who assisted in bringing a bank to the Student Center It was a case of administrators lending a hand to help solve a student concern And it proved that ASUSU leaders’ efforts can make a difference in important issues The International Student Council It’s fast becoming the most active student organization on campus It is aggressively working against tough organizational problems to create a number of relevant and helpful services to the campus grass-root- The I Itah letters annoy USU student ‘Rip-off- s’ To the editor: I am concerned about which direction today's society is travelling My concern stems from the amount of trust and responsibility that each of us possess and put upon our fellow persons months I have been passively reading The Utah Statesman The subtle pressures have built up to a point where apathy can no longer handle the load I can maintain over such topics as outrageous tuition watching the few intercollegiate teams which support a few select athletes rather than dispersing monies to many athletic teams thus benefiting many athletes for s which are poured into such programs and they don’t even have winning The past few out-of-sta- te mega-buck- seasors (I do play lacrosse and we will have a winning season for sure!) I can tolerate an armed security force (until they shoot an unarmed student who didn’t pay his tuition on time) The act that really bubbles my blood to its boiling point is when you get ripped-of- f from your peers The Statesman personals can attest to my point I have read numerous ads ads which state someone has stolen some article of clothing or whatever Like others I know who my deviants are Is it worth the hassle to bring them to their senses or to justice? I only wonder how many such occurrences have happened without someone speaking up about them Last weekend while playing racquetball I mistakenly left my "sweats” outside the court So meone obviously thought that my sweats would benefit then more as compared to myself they were wrong! I would like their return but I am not holding my breath I have i friend who is another example of trust While his jeans were being cleaned in the dorm washing machine someone stole them — sopping wet 1 Being from the northeast safe think that Utah is relatively from crime (I now know there is no such place) Must we get to such a paranoid state that we must lock everything that is not nailed down? Remember when and you could leave your house car unlocked your laundry leave anything unattended outside while playing racquet-ball- ? Oh those were the days!
