Show Do your griping where it can count to make it The USU student court is being more effective in meeting student needs The members of the court as students have an insight into the student perspective of campus problems and are exhibiting a dedication to help deal with those problems The justices are volunteering their lime to make the student court function and they deserve to be commended for their desire to serve fellow students Their efforts will be in vain however if people who have grievances fail to take advantage of the court Students must realize they have a alternative to accepting w hat may be an unfair parking ticket or an undeserved grade They can appeal to the student court As with any court no guarantees can be made The parking ticket or the grade could stand But possibly the justices may be able to helo A student with a grievance has nothing to lose by seeking help from the court and potentially much to gain It is easy to complain about being unfairly treated by the university And these claims are frequently heard Complaints however accomplish little unless they are made before a group with power to cure the problem like the student court t The first step to redress of grievances is a simple it must be made The problem has to be presented to the court Last year few students took this initial step This year we hope the situation will be different The student court is not merely an empty gesture made by idealistic students It exists as a functioning body that can make a difference between having to accept unfair treatment and haring a wrong made right Only 4 more ‘chopping’ days ’till Thanksgiving one-bu- JJETTE Intentions explained ‘Airheads ’ deflate fun of campus films by sponsors of rally To the editor Te Iht editor: Wt feel a very strong need to voice our thoughts and intentions oo the rally we organized which took place on Tuesday concerning the United Stales Embassy takeover We knew that the only way we could hold this rally was to go through the correct channels to obtain a permit from university officials In order to get that permit we had to assure the Assistant Dean of Students Val Christiansen there would be an honest effort made to secure a peaceful rally and that we would direct our intentions to the takeover itself not Iranian students on campus He in turn had to convince USU President Cazier and the chief of police in Logan that it would indeed be peaceful Since we put a lot of time into the organization of this rally we were going to proceed with it as it was planned We weren't about to have a flag burning disrupt the business at band and we were going to do our best to see that the speakers got all the respect they deserved Once the organized rally waa completed students were free to do whatever they wanted to show their support or nonsupport of the situation Vary hula happened A hour of apathy perhaps? Now we would like to direct our attention toward thoee who thought the rally waa too add and pointless Maybe the rally was too mild but it would never have been approved by school officials if we had insisted on burning effigies chanting "deport" and "kill Khomeini" or encouraging encounters between American and Iranian students on campus As stated earlier these were not our inten- tions Pointless you say Maybe you people were just listening for what you wanted to hear and not what the speakers said Many good thoughts and feelings were given on that lectern Tuesday were sorry if they weren't yours We d also like to direct this to Mr Bliss The only things that gave the rally the look of a church meeting were the people in the audience and their lack of voicing their “real reactions" We opened up that microphone at the end for anyone who had something they felt needed saying Where were you? Your very own apathy showed through Before closing we'd like to thank all the speakers school officials and friends who helped with the rally Abo a very special thanks to USU students and faculty in support of what we did It makes it all worthwhile We can only pray now that the situation ends peacefully with no lives lost Tim CTBriea Pawl Kaapf or cry to be caught up in the story It has been my experience when attending the SC movies to be deluged by barbaric individuals who apparently came to the movie to compete with the movie for the honor of entertaining its audience I'm sure most are familiar with In response to the Nov 9 article referring to the SC movie budget I'd like to comment First let me say that this fall quarter's line-ufor SC movies is one of the finest that we’ve ever had in my three years at USU the types I'm referring to I have been tempted to let down ‘ The clusters of giggla standard I established last year ing females who arrive in groups and give the SC theater another and squeal the show throughout chance ” The singular just because the movies who are such good ones comes with a data and in order to The reason I refuse to attend SC and prove herself movies is the inconsiderate au- feminine asks dependent questions every diences I battled rude loud ob- other minute noxious crowds for six quarters We're all familiar with the half and finally decided “to hell with wilted parents who drag their bawl'em” ing babies into the theater much to When I go to a movie no matter the delight of everyone in the auwhat the cost I got to see and hear dience what is on the screen I go to Laugh Lastly there is the quasi- p "air-head- - "air-head- intellect He's a real sport Hk trick is to see the movie t doses of 10 times Then he takes group or so people who have never sees the movie to a showing It beconee his duty to explain to these po s what is happening I am fully aware that thiskf not going to change the world M if Jerry Urlacher is concern about attendance maybe he consider why I end severs! mam like me prefer to not attend dim-wit- Therwwiil always be drunUl“j eaters and those who care whisper but I don't 1 seated among them to Pr movies with considerate where the services of ushsrs cost employed despite the T THE UTAH STATESMAN USPS 532 640 Cant tan i OtWati W n ur STtTtsaua a M mm w sot a ta uni MasswawiMwatwaaie j tw twauaty iwact et awwtt a uaw sow lanaawaASUSu irmawxcr naaewaatnwiaiytatat OTM wwaiwstaiams at mm Cants akattr an aw waa lanatrwtwmaiaaaK torrsMAi owtews aw mw we Matttw tw ww " TaWlW MWWt TIC UTAH statesman a etsewai ttawaer ww wcwl ewt Wan atao a arow M ansa class (MIT IMMM taew R a tw |
