Show Lakeside Review South, Wednesday, October 3, 1984 Centerville Girl To Represent CENTERVILLE Ward, 17, 1036 N. 300 Davis Second in State With Ribbons County Residents Earn Fair Awards 4-- H Cen- terville, has been chosen to repre- sent the state of Utah at the national Congress to be held in Chicago, Nov. Ward stated her work nine years ago while living in South Ogden. Included in her projects are foods, clothing, leadership, home environment, child care, food preservation, dog care, health and safety, candy making, fine arts, needlepoint, cake decorating and arts and crafts. Because of her excellent overall record, Ms. Ward was chosen to attend the national congress in the area of achievement. She has excelled in all of her projects receiving top honors and blue ribbons at both county fairs and the Utah State Fair. 4-- H 23-3- his Cosmos entry. Denny Bennett Davis County residents picked up more ribbons as the Utah State Fair in Salt Lake City continued last week. County residents place only behind Salt Lake County in the number of prizes awarded in this years state fair. Wendy E 0. 4-- H of Bountiful won the climbing vine category. In the floriculture's third show, Twila Keller won a trophy with her advanced amateur entry. Edward Ritter also won a trophy with the best single Dahlias entry and a special award for a Patricia Pollen Dahlias entry. Margie Burningham won a special award for her mini roses. Alleen T. Nelson of Layton, and her sister, Elaine Tumblom of Ogden, were the oldest twins to enter the twin contests at the fair. The sisters are 81 years-old. Ona and Ola Maxey of Roy, both 70, also entered the twin contest. In the floriculture second show, Margie Burningham of Bountiful won the best of show for her Rose Pristine entry. In the best advanced amateur contest, Twila N. Keller of Bountiful won with her Tradewinds entry. She also won the advanced amateur prize for her floriculture dont fence entry. In the open class, Edward F. Ritter of Kaysville won with 4-- H -- In the best rare category, the best of breed category and the best young and old category in the state fair pigeon contest, Jan Rogers of Layton won with Berliner Tumbler pigeons. were winners in the Governors Fruit Pie Baking Contest at the fair. Ms. Ward is the daughter of Steve and Brenda Ward of 4-- H program. Ms. Ward is a senior at View-moHigh School where she is a nt member of the senior council, secretary of the Madrigals singing group, treasurer of the honor society, a member of the girls soccer team, and responsible for publicity for the LDS seminary. In the Talent Find contest, Carly Fisher, age 7, won third place in the junior division with a flash dance. Joseph Lakman of Davis County won second place in the lamb cookery division in the Utah Cookout King contest. Davis FARMINGTON County employees will be actively involved again in this years United Way campaign fund drive, kicked off last week. Last year, 250 county workers collected about $8,000, according to the county representative for United Way. Melvin Miles, county personnel director, was appointed the representative this year by county commissioners last week. Miles also gained approval for employees working for the county to attend meetings on the United Way campaign. g This years goal is fund-raisin- to collect 10 percent more than last years drive, Miles said. The county has been doing better and better each year. I'm hopeful we can reach our goal, he said. Free Admission Temple Square Dates Concerts October concerts are scheduled for the LDS Temple Square in Salt Lake City. Concerts for the series start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are not required for the concerts, which are free of charge and are sponsored by the Activities Committee of the LDS Church. October 12: Utah all state band, orchestra, and choir. October 13: Capitol English Brass Band, Cecil Garrison, musical director. Friday night the Utah All State Band, Orchestra, and Choir will perform in the Tabernacle. The three groups are made up of the finest high school students in the board harmony, and organ in- struction. He earned his masters of music and doctorate of music in organ performance at Northwestern University. Julie Bevan Zumsteg graduated from Brigham Young University as a cello performance major, and received a masters of music in cello performance at the University of Southern California. She was a soloist at the Legacy Concerts in 1982 at Symphony Hall, and is a member of the Deseret String Quartet. Peterson is a member of the organ faculty at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. She was Nevadas Outstanding Woman of the Year finalist in the field of fine arts. She is a member of the faculty for the Church Music Workshop at Brigham Young University.
