Trees Are Planned For North Salt Lake Reed Company, owner of the fenced property in the area attended the meeting and agreed to plant similar trees along his JUDY JENSEN Review Correspondent NORTH SALT LAKE Trees will be planted along a half mile stretch of the North Salt Lake freeway exit. The Plans call for more than 1,000 evergreens to be planted on the east side of the road beginning at Orchard Drive and extending South one half mile. North Salt Lake Mayor, Robert Palmquist, has been working on the project over the past few months. He invited property owners in the area and representatives of the telephone company and Mountain Fuel Supply to attend a meeting regarding the proposed improvements. Property owners agreed that there is a definite need to improve the appearance of the area since it is one of the main entrances into Davis County. Spokesmen for the utility companies agreed that the plantings would not interfere with their underground equipment in the area. Mike Gibbons, fence line, i Barbara Gardner, area forester for the Utah State Division of Lands and Forestry, said there are many evergreens that have a carrot-lik- e root system that would be suitable for the area, some of it will be experimental, she explained. The trees will be planted in three different plantings and three different species will be tried. Gardner explained they will probably plant some juniadpers, cedars or pines but she ded, it will work. The first planting could be as early as this spring she said. This project is one of many that Palmquist has instigated to improve the appearance of North Salt Lake. He said he was pleased with the response and of the pledged North Salt Lake business own- of Gibbons and ers.
