LAYTON With an air of happy anticipation, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8307 auxiliary, bustled around the kitchen making final preparations for th,e annual Christmas dinner for residents of the Wide Horizons Care Center, 910 Monroe in Ogden. They had previously lived at the Garden Home training Center. Sixty-fiv- e residents attended the party, which has been sponsored by the VFW, for the past five years. Following the dinner the highlight of the evening came when Santa brough gifts, donated by Layton and Clearfield, merchants. Pictures were taken of each guest with Santa Claus and given to the guest for a keepsake. Some pictures were swapped with friends, while others shyly showed them to staff members and friends. Mecham was born April 17, 1910 in Riverdale, Idaho, a son of Leonidas Smart and Charlotte May Tolman Mecham. , Mrs. Mecham was born March 6, 1910, in Salt Lake City, a daughter of John Franklin and Elizabeth Ann Saville Davis. After graduation from the University of Utah in 1937, they moved to Inkom, Idaho, where Mecham was employed as a teacher and coach at the high :iil ONAN T. AND NOLA D. MECHAM -- Homer Warner LDS Church athletic award. Mecham was American Red Cross first aid and water sports instructor. He has coached church athletic teams in softball, volleyball and basketball. In the LDS Church he has been a priesthood leader, Sunday school teacher, scoutmaster, explorer leader, bishop and high councilman. Mrs. Mecham has served in the Primary association for 35 years, in the MIA presidency and teacher, Relief Society presischool. and as a chorister in that dency During his 36 years in Idaho organization. She has served on education, he served in a variety thestake boards of the Primary and Sunday school. She has taught classes in first aid and home nursing for the American Red Cross. After retirement, they moved to Syracuse, where they are still active in the church and do temple and genealogical work. They also are active in the Davis County Republican Party. Mrs. Mecham served as a registrar and voting district secretary. He has been voting district chairman and is now serving as treasurer of the Davis County Republican Party. Mecham still coaches the veteran basketball and volleyball teams of his ward. They have five children, Nolan D. Mecham, Thomas, Idaho; Leon D. Mecham, West Valley City; Gary D. Mecham, Syracuse; Mrs. Kenneth H. (Carmen) Lords, Winnemucca, Nev. and Mrs. Richard R. (Rhea) Blake, St. Anthony, Idaho. They have 31 grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.
