Jeremys Spirit Although much of the news in todays world is bad news, at this Christmas time of year especially, it seems worthwhile to recognize the fact that much good is being done among friends, neighbors and even strangers in our area. In an unusual telephone call to the Lakeside Review office in Is Christmas Spirit recent weeks, a father did some understandable boasting about his son. Jeremy Funk shoveled snow from three blocks of sidewalk near his Clinton home, the father was proud to relate, so the little kids wouldnt have to walk on slick walkways. While he was at it, Jeremy also shoveled the driveway of an elderly woman in his neighborhood. It was a small thing, not really meriting a news story, we told the father. People, most often children, are making time every day to help others. In fact, it is not a small thing. What keeps it from ..being news is the fact that it is not all that unusual. And that is wht makes it worth Letters to toe Editor Cat Injured By Cruelty Review Editor: Recently, my husband and I, on a drive, became acquainted with a tiny gray kitten, whom we now call Muffin. Our introduction was a heartbreaking one. Someone had thrown her from a car. The impact was so great as to completely tear the entire chin area away from her mouth,, also her tail was broken- - There she sat, shocked and in a pool of her own blood. The pain had to be terrible. A disconcerned neighbor looked at her, and simply turned and walked away. We took this pitiful little creature to Dr. White of Farming-to. n. The doctor graciously accepted her, telling us she could be saved, because the torn area hadn't coagulated and was still ' bleeding. The little orphan had jaw reconstruction and we have her at home with us now. Dr. White used steel stitches, but little Muffin never complains. In two weeks theyll come out. She is doing fine and seems happy just to be alive and have a good home. She is a sweet little bundle of love. How could in their anyone be so treatment of her? Cruelty seems to occur all around us, and is cowardly and unnecessary. I only hope the of these crimes to helpless and voiceless creatures are discovered before they go on to hurt a child, etc. As Ann Landers stated in an article, Police records have proven; people who torture animals are potentially dangerous to humans. They should be apprehended and watched carefully. We are thankful to have saved this little life. Muffin seems contented too, in spite of all the pain shes endured and will for some time to come. Meanwhile, she just cuddles up to everyone and purrs. No one will ever hurt you again, Muffin. Leigh Engelbrecht Bountiful sub-hum- an rs Swim Team Is Grateful ' i . hours, whichever came first. Chris Hill Clearfield Roy Meeting First Glass Review Editor: Its too bad there wasnt television coverage of the Roy City Council meeting on Dec. b. It was a first class display of democracy in action on the local . level. The purpose of the meeting was to provide a public hearing on how a $902,000 state loan for sewer construction on Roys western border should be repaid. All residents could be billed to repay the loan or only direct users of the system could be billed. Emotions were high on both sides. But instead of spilling over into personal attacks or refusal to acknowledge opposing viewpoints, people listened to each other. They listened so well that an aura of mutual respect and understanding gradually pervaded the room; key ingredients to reaching the eventual compromise that left both sides feeling partially Victorious- Principal speakers on both sides were well informed and articulates The city council was responsive to citizen input. And Mayor Jack Pierce insisted that decorum and courtesy were extended to all participants. Its just too bad there were no cameras.
