Dot art, done with head of a pin RUTH MALAN Review Correspondent KAYSVILLE Lorene and David Newbold of Kaysville enjoy making Christmas items. Each year David makes a new decoration, explained Mrs. Newbold. One year he painted a nativity set, another year he made an arrangement of pine boughs and poinsettias in a basket. Last year we painted a tree skirt together. Mrs. Newbold became interested in handwork when at age 6 her grandmother taught her to embroider. Mr. Newbold also does woodworking. v One of Snatas delightful reindeer can be made by purchasing the wooden parts from a hobby or craft shop, said Mrs. New-bolThe reindeer stands about 16 inches tall and is made of six wooden parts which may be taken apart for easy storage.' The legs, body, neck, head and d. is used on the antlers and legs. The eyes and mouth are painted on. The saddle is made of red felt trimmed with eyelet. Small bells are sewn to ribbon and used as a harness. An attractive Christmas wreath is made from a purchased styrofoam wreath and any fabric that may coordinate with your own decorations. First measure the outside circumference of the styrofoam and multiply that number by three. This gives you the length of fabric needed for the covering of the wreath. Next measure around the side of the wreath and add S inches for the width. On the wrong side of the fabric sew length wise into a long tube. Turn right side out and sew one inch from each side of the tube. This forms a ruffle when gathered onto the wreath, Cut through the styrofoam in one place to enable you to feed material onto the circle, then glue wreath back together. At seam on front of wreath, decorate as you desire with plastic or silk flowers, pine boughs, pine cones, birds, apples, berries, ribbons etc. Mrs. Newbold creatively used a pattern for a gingerbread house to make little purses for her three daughters. Reversible quilted fabric was used so that the roof, windows and door are done with the reverse side of the , ji fabric. Velcro fasteners are used to keep the purse closed. Five purses may be made from one yard of fabric. Cut pieces by leaving 'A. on all sides for the seam. The handle is seven inches long. Windows are made of the contrasting side of the ric and are. approximately xh inches by finches and are sewn4, on with a g stitch. zijf-2a- I I t reindeer is decorated by Lorene Newbold of Kaysville.
