Show port Sun Advocate Friday, March 10 30, 1904 Dinos hand Lehi Region Eight loss HYRE By ANGIE Sports editor The Carbon High Dinos had no winning their first Region Eight game of the season here Wednesday afternoon shutting out Lehi The game was called in the top of the fifth inning when the Pioneers failed to put any runs on the board. But it was obvious the Dinos were too much for Lehi early in the game. The first inning started out slow with Lehi managing one hit but were quickly put out by the sharp Dino defense. A poor call by the plate umpire lost Mark Nielson a sure home run calling it a double. That call cut off some momentum for Carbon and they ended the inning with a lead. We could have easily blew them out in the first inning, coach Gary Cowart said. The second inning was also slow moving for Carbon. Dino pitcher Mike Smuin struck out two Lehi batters to help put Carbon back at bat but Carbon was unable to add any further runs at that point. In the third inning, Lehi couldnt buy a hit and when it came time for the Dinos up at bat, they broke loose with all they had. Carbon had two triples, a double and a home run to pull ahead to an easy 0 lead that inning. Chad Bianco led off with a single and then stole second while Lonnie Rice wacked a triple with one RBI followed by trouble 13-- 2-- 0. 0 10-- Steve Vasquez with a triple and two RBIs. Mike Campbell slammed the ball out of the field for a three-ruhomer that lead. clinched the The Pioneers had a ray of hope in the fourth inning when they pulled out three hits but were unable to get a man across home plate. Carbon followed suit with three more runs at their last turn at bat. Like Cowart has said since the beginning of the season, if the Dinos come out swinging the bat they can win ball games. Carbon was 10 for 18 at bat and totaled three doubles, two triples and one home run for 12 earned runs. Nielson, Rice and Campbell all had three RBIs each for the game. Smuin had a good day on the mound, giving up four hits and pitched nine strike outs with no n 10-ru- n errors. The true test of the Dinos ability will come today (Friday) as Carbon travels to Spanish Fork for the second Region Eight match. The Dinos are entering this game 0 for the in region play. season and Cowart expects a tough match but one that can be won by the Dinos. Were throwing one of our top pitchers and if we come out swinging the bat like we did Wednesday, we can win, he said. Were playing a good ball game and if we can just keep it up we can win. But the kids want to win and thats the key. 6-- 0 HELP EASTER SEAL RAISE $2,000,000 TO HELP OUR NATIONS DISABLED.
