Camp Carbon is the name the University of Utah's head football coach, Ron McBride, gave to the practice camp set up at CEU last year. This years camp is scheduled Aug. The U of U will bring about 170 people to town including players, coaches, media people and support 14-2- 4. staif. CELTs Steve Bringhurst said will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.xa and from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. The practices will take place on the CEU football field or on the practice field behind the Career Center. two-a-da- ys A special addition to this years Camp Carbon is the creation of Jim Banasky Day. A small fee will be charged for the inner-squa- d scrimmage scheduled Friday, Aug. 23. Money raised from the admission fee and from various concessions will be used to support local athletes attending CEU. This was Coach idea," said Bringhurst. A barbeque for the coaches and players will take place Thursday, Aug. 22, at 7:30 p.m. at Washington Park. For reservations for the barbeque, call Kathy Axelgard at the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce. "They kept on top of things while they were down here," Bringhurst said The team and others involved in Camp Carbon stay in CEU dorms and eat in the school cafeteria. Bringhurst said the local area also benefited from "good press while the team was here. "It is the kind of exposure you just cant buy. It was a real plus for Carbon County, Price city and for the college," he said McBride has indicated this has been an excellent recruiting year, so local fans can expect to see some talented football players. The public is welcome at all practice sessions. CHS football meeting By LAYNE MILLER Sports oditor Carbons head football coach, Jeff Jorgensen, will hold an informational meeting with the football players and their parents Friday, Aug. 14, at 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Jorgensen says the purpose of the meeting is to review team rules and regulations and go over expectations for the coaches, players and parents. Practice with pads will begin Aug. 19 at 8 a.m. Golf winners Winners of the International Days golf tournament are: (left to right) Sam Gallegos, Cobb Johnson, Kent Norton and Connie Norton. Hunting meeting set The Division of Wildlife Resources will hold a public meeting Thursday, Aug. 8, to receive public input on preferred dates for the 1991-9- 5 waterfowl hunting seasons. The meeting convenes at the Price City Ilall, room 207, at 7 p.m. At the June wildlife board meeting, a DWR proposal to split the state into two separate duck hunting zones was unanimously approved. The northern zone would primarily consist of wetlands along the Wasatch front. The southern zone would include all other waters and incorporate Carbon, Emery, Grand and San Juan counties. The zoning would provide two independent duck hunting seasons in the state to better take advantage of duck hunting opportunities. |
