The board of commissioners voted on Sept. 27 to back the citys application for a grant from the Community Impact Board (CIB) to finance doubling the country clubs existing golf course to create an facility. Roy Nickas, president ofthe country club, approached the lawmakers during the regularly scheduled commission meeting and requested the countys active involvement in the attempt to obtain CIB funding on the project. The expansion will increase the courses playability and manageability and bring notoriety to the county. The project will create a practical but unique facility which can be seen from the freeway. The existing golf course was initially started in 1949. The facility presently covers 49 frv. anniversaries vWa, are currently played on the greens. The proposed expansion will increase the courses size to 66 acres. Discussing the financial ramifications of the proposed expansion, Chairman William Krompel assured Carbon residents, Were talking CIB were not talking grant increased taxes. The commissioners passed a motion supporting the country clubs concept design, the formation of a county-wid- e a lifelong game. It is a good clean sport and a good overall activity. The concept plan on the proposed project has been JOHNSON . Frontier Exploration Inc. has submitted a notice of intent to conduct oil and gas exploration operations near and in the Desolation Canyon WSA. Operations will include the use of a helicopter to transport drilling equipment, onsite drilling operations, the d use of explosives and placement ofseismic below-groun- monitoring equipment. Six seismograph lines totaling about 28 miles would be completed. Less than six miles of these lines would be within the Desolation Canyon WSA. The entire area of operations is located in Township 8 South and Ranges 7 East in the Book Cliffs in Emery 17-1- 15-1- County. A draft environmental assessment has been written to analyze the impacts from the proposed action and alternatives. Comments from interested parties must be received by Friday, Oct. 20 in order to be considered in the decision-makin- g process.
