I am completely against any federal funds being used for abortion or abortion counseling. I am also completely against federal funds being used to counsel people to use coconsince ntraceptives, traceptives are many times not preventing conception, but are actually aborting a new person whose life began at conception. The federal government will only be taking part in bringing death to millions of babies by continuing to give federal confunding to dispense traceptives. Let us end our funding now before these new drugs become our 1 abortion causing way to limit births. Spermicides have also been linked to miscarriages and birth defects, although as yet, there is no proof. I suggest our government try to realize that by funding organizations that teach and encourge people to use these abortion causing contraceptives that they are putting money into destruction. It would be beneficial if those deciding upon funding would not yield to popular opinion of the in group but look to the effects of 50 years of contraception: high promiscuity, high pornography, high abortion, high divorce rates, high teen drug and suicide rate, high AIDS and veneral disease rate. You may ask how can contraception be linked to all these evils. When sex is something to be used, rather than a total gift of self, then sexuality, marriage and life lose much of their meaning. People keep seeking the meaning they cant find in life by having affairs or using drugs. When marriages fall apart, children become confused and lose the meaning of life, they too search, and often in the wrong places. We as a nation have lost a lot of the meaning and beauty in sexuality and life. We need to reevaluate the fact that family life and love are (in most cases) not what they were meant to be. I believe that when we can restore sexuality to be that of total rather than we will rediscover much of the beauty in life. I do not think that we will find it by making our lives more con self-givin- g, self-getti- nt 20026-399- 3. 637-59- Speed 3. In any fair contest between the good reasons cited by unions for the new laws, and the reasons cited by good business against them, the business view would surely prevail. In the past, business has rallied to defeat other labor laws. But we were successful because we offered Congress real reasons as well as good ones for voting no. We generated cards, letters and telephone calls by the tens of thousands. They had an impact. victorious representatives, 30 more than a majority, and 20 victorious senators. Now it is calling in its IOUs. Business has some good reasons for opposing these proposed labor laws. They would strangle small business and stifle job creation. Lush benefits are of little use to a worker who is unemployed. The politicians who support the labor agenda say they only want to give American workers the same benefits enjoyed by European workers. They fail to note the devasting effect such requirements have had upon European economies. While the U.S. has been creating more than 13 million new jobs, Europe has gained none. While our unemployment has dropped to 5.9 percent, Europes remains stuck at about 11 percent. however, the unions have the initiative. If we want to deter import of the European disease into this country, we must once again show Congress some real reasons for voting no. And I dont mean just the top brass either. I mean business must get its employees involved too. It is standard policy for some companies to encourage their employees to communicate with Congress on issues in which they and their employers have a vital state. These proposed new labor laws surely fall into that category and I would like to see more businesses adopt this sensible practice. We simply must let Congress know that probusiness voters are watching, keeping track, counting votes. Richard L. Lesher Chamber of Commerce of fhe U.S. politician ever does anything for only one reason. There are always at least two: the good reason and the real reason. No The members of Congress who are now trying to hike the minimum wage, require parental leave, force con- struction workers to join unions, and mandate a wide array of health benefits for employees have a good reason. They want to improve the lot of working people. The real reason is a bit less inspiring. In the last election, the AFL-CI- endorsed O (Continued from Page 121 with you.
