Show Friday, November 14, In Emery 1986 Sun Advocate, Price, Utah 3 court Not guilty plea to sexual abuse By ROSANN Staff FILLMORE writer CASTLE DALE Joseph Bryant Nelson entered a plea of not guilty in Seventh District Court last week to two charges of aggravated sexual abuse of a child and one charge of rape of a child. Nelson, 26, of Ferron will be tried before a jury Feb. 11 and 12. The defendant remains released on a $10,000 property bond and an order restraining him from further contact with the victim or the victims family remains in effect. Judge Boyd Bunnell extended probationary terms for three defendants who had been charged with not complying with the terms of their probation. Charles Handley, 25, Cleveland, who had been convicted of distribution of a controlled substance, a third degree felony, admitted he had failed to make written reports to state corrections officer, Jose Ramirez and failed to pay a $285 fine and $35 restitution. Bunnell ordered Handley to make $25 payments on his fine and restitution and extended his probations six months past the original expiration date. Sherry Handley, 31, of distribution of a controlled substance, also admitted failing to comply with the terms of her probation. She said she had not paid $35 restitution or fulfilled 120 hours of community service ordered by the court. Bunnell ordered her probation extended six months and told her to get the restitution paid and the community service completed. Gene Arnold Nix also appeared on charges he had failed to fulfill the conditions of his probation. Nix, 23, Huntington, had also been convicted of distribution of a controlled substance. He admitted he had failed to make probation reports for the months of August and September or make fine payments. He explained he had been out of previously convicted corrections officer and extended his probation six months. representatives of the American Legion, the Marine Corps Planning to fight wilderness Organizations representing a segment of Utahs business, agricultural, mining, petroleum, timber, manufacturing, local government and other interests have announced a campaign to support multiple use of the states public lands. Designated wilderness means locking up lands, cutting off the jobs, taking away grazing, eliminating mineral extraction, turning back the sportsmen, the handicapped and the elderly, he said. Included in the coalition are the Utah Mining Association, Woolgrowers Association, Utah Manufacturers Association, Utah Association of Counties, Utah Forest Industry Council and the Utah Taxpayers Association. Over 15 percent of Utahs land area is aready withdrawn, reserved, or under wilderness management, and produces no property taxes. Utahs taxpayers and job holders cannot carry this heavy burden, Wallentine said. Coalition leaders say tourism is an important industry, but far from Utahs leading industry. Manufacturing, mineral extraction and agriculture each produce more economic activity in Utah than does tourism. Even so, we welcome in- creased tourism.
