Show rw tm" Friday, March 7, 19BB Sun Advocate Losses end Carbon's bid for state title Carbon Highs Lady Dinos found two losses at the state 3A hoop tournament to end their season. The ladies went into the tournament as the sixth place candidates from Region Eight. In their first game, being in the number six slot, the Lady Dinos were faced with the ladies from Judge Memorial, the top team from Region Six. The Lady Dinos played a very solid game, throughout, to coach Gary Kohlmeier, but lacking inside strength, the ladies from Judge according were able to control the Dino offensive boards. Defensivly, however, the Carbon ladies put forth a good effort. Kohlmeier said the team just lacked the offnse to get the points that were needed and lost 1 to the ladies from Judge. Getting beaten is never good, but losing to Judge by only 16 is pretty respectable, Kohlmeier said. 47-3- The Carbon ladies were slowed in the opening quarter with six points while Judge scored 13. Fouls gave the Lady Dinos a little trouble in the first quarter as Judge was able to complete five of six attempts from the freethrow line. Scoring improved for the Carbon ladies in the second quarter as they added 10 points to their tally. Judge Memorial 6 lead at the half held a intermission. Scoring was low for the Carbon team in the third quarter as they were held to four points. Judge doubled the Carbon figure for eight points. Carbon fouls game Judge six points in the fourth quarter, added to three field goals gave the opponents 12 points for the last quarter while Carbon had 27-1- early lead in the game, holding a 10--4 lead at the end of the first quarter. Pineview found some fire and took off running in the second quarter and heavily outscored the Lady Dinos. the In second period, tournament bracket, the Carbon ladies were contested by the ladies from Pineview High School Wednesday afternoon. Pineview found themselves with accurate shooting from the field, putting up nine field goals and one freethrow while Carbon added nine points to their score prior to the half. Beginning the second half with a 9 lead, Pineview and Carbon scored evenly in the third quarter, each adding 13 points to their scores. The fourth quarter made the deciding difference as Pineview scored 17 points and Carbon scored 13 53-win again, leading to the for the Dixie area team. Kohlmeier said the ladies had their chances but were continually outscored. They didnt outhustle us on defense or rebounds, they just had more players that were shooting than we did. Turnovers also haunted the Lady Dinos, Kohlmeier said, and those accompanied by fouls were a detriment to the Carbon Pineview, from Region Seven, had been moved into the left side of the bracket after a loss in the opening round on Monday. Robertson was selected to be a member of the Academic Allstate wrestling team. Through the season, Robertson wrestled 7 heavyweight and had a record. He is a two-yeletterman in wrestling and the son of James and Evangeline Robertson. Named to the Academic Allstate basketball team was Viking Don Herrera.
