DWR ships extra eggs nationwide The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources last month shipped several hundred thousand leftover fish eggs to wildlife agencies across the country. The eggs, excess to Utahs trout stocking program needs, will pay off old debts and leave some states beholden to Utah fisheries managers. The egg shipments are the result of an informal bartering system set up by federal and state fish hatcheries in the United States a kind of long distance, ongoing swap meet in which wildlife agencies trade one another for eggs of new species of fish or for more eggs of a species in short supply at their hatcheries. Last month, for example, the Utah Division shipped 300,000 brown trout eggs to Missouri to bolster their supply of fish for stocking in many popular tailwater trout fisheries. In turn, Missouri provides Utah with warmwater species such as smallmouth bass and bluegill to enhance our burgeoning war- mwater fisheries program. 3B 3T skinned by Lady cagers T-Bi- rd A big of a spread in the score was the result from a visit from the Lady Thunderbirds from Timpview High Thursday. It was a 1 result that led to the loss for the Lady Dinos from Carbon High, mainly from a lack of inside scoring for the local team. Timpview, however, was able to capitalize on an inside and an outside game, with most of their double figure scoring coming from the inside game, according to Dino coach Gary Kohlmeier. Overall, Timpview has to be the tallest team weve played so far, Kohlmeier said. Carbons scoring was paced by guards Natalie Paterson and Paige Lamph with 12 and 11 points respectively. We need to get an inside scoring trend, he said, We cant win with just two in double figures. Weve worked on the shooting in practice, he said, now we just have to put the shots up in the game. Weve missed a lot of shots, but have also missed out on a lot of shooting opportunities. Scoring was close between the two teams early in the game, with the Thunderbird team having only a one point edge over the Dinos at the end of the first quarter. The spread came in the second quarter, however, when Timpview put eight more points on the board while holding the Lady Dinos to only two. Stepping out in the third and fourth quarters, the Lady Thunderbirds put the icing on their cake and ate it too, capturing the win. In junior varsity action, Carbons ladies took a 48-- win from the junior Thunderbirds with sophomore Janeal Pabst leading the scoring with 18 points. Monday night saw the ladies playing host to the Lady Red Devils from Springville and tonight, the Carbon ladies will face the Lady Dons from Spanish Fork on the home court. 55-3- W L Sun Advocate, Price, Utah 40 Timpview Carbon Timpview Raisor 13 8 14 20 12 2 10 Clark 6 Jardine Utley Totals Stonely 4 55 731 Young Fouls: 11. Many years ago, California supplied Utah with golden trout for stocking in lakes of the high Uintas. Over the years, the two agencies have maintained a close working relationship. A recent trade with Michigan fisheries managers sent 200,000 brown trout eggs there in exchange for smallmouth bass fingerling for northern Utah waters later this year. These are just three examples of the dozens of trade-off- s that continually enhance Utahs and Americas sport fisheries. But there is a concerning note to the story. Utah Division of Wildlife Resources fish culture coordinator, John Leppink says even with shipment of hundreds of thousands of trout eggs to other states, surplus eggs remain. behind-the-sce- ne MEGA-FLE- ERG0METER HOME EXERCYCLE DELUXE For Casual Exercise to Carefully Planned Workouts! Capture and transplant efforts in the parks Island in the Sky area, with cooperation and assistance from national park personnel, are scheduled to continue into early February. Jim Karpowitz, the wildlife southeastern divisions regional game manager, said rams, ewes and lambs are being transplanted to supplement smaller bighorn herds nearby. once Bighorns ranged throughout the canyonlands area, and the transplanting project is a successful effort to return the sheep to their historic habitat. Once safely netted, the sheep are weighed and measured, tested for disease and pregnancy, then transported in trailers to release sites. Karpowitz noted the captured animals appeared to be in generally good physical condition. Captured rams are four to five years old and weigh about 125 pounds. The state has an estimated to 3,000 of the rare animals, about 500 in the Island in the Sky area of Canyonlands National Park. 2,500 Rebuilt Transmissions - 300 300 275 275 265 290 350 4x4 whk THM THM 150 lock- - Cat.
