Adda Pearle is a good witch and really quite loveable, but seems to have a few problems. She never quite knows when her magic is going to work. She pops up in a spot and really doesnt know where she is. Then she cant make herself invisible when she wants to disappear. Shawn George as Evilene, the Wicked Witch, and Kristina Yuen as Glinda (the Good Witch), rehearse a scene from "The Wiz," to be presented at Murray Park Amphitheatre. with the Salt Lake Repertory Theater. She has also appeared in Anything Goes, Cinderella and Camelot on the Murray stage. Evillene in The Wiz is the version of the wicked souped-uwitch of the west, aptly played by Shawn George of Sandy, who p News. Mrs. George appeared in shows at Weber State college, Jackson Hole and Promised Valley Playhouse. One of her favorite roles was Bloody Mary in South Pacific. Glinda is the only witch in the show "with her head on straight, says Kristina Yuen, who plays the part. Glinda has mastered her magic and is "the down home version of the good witch in the Wizard of Oz. "Her featured song is "If you Believe," in which she tells Dorothy and all who listen that believing in yourself will help you achieve your goals. Mrs. Yuen is a graduate in theater from Southern Utah State College. She has done productions at Promised Valley and was in the show at Hansen "Zap Planetarium. Besides these three talented actors, The Wiz is cast with about 40 other energetic performers to provide great entertainment for adults and children alike. The "Friends" are Emilie Lee deAzevedo as Dorothy, Beckstead as Tinman, Ken Johnson as the Lion and Jason - - Hughes as the Scarecrow. The played by Drew Phillips. There are 29 songs including jazz, blues and gospel numbers directed by Sue Thompson. Director is Doug Bishop, and the orchestra is guided by Reed Thomas. The Royal Tea, a popular part of the Utah Shakespearian Festival will run every Monday and Thursday beginning tonight. The Costume Cavalcade will be presented Mondays and Thursdays at 1:30, backstage tours every Tuesday and Friday at 2 p.m. The events are all part of the festival and each is prepared with as much care as are the plays themselves according to Fred C. Adams, producing director. The Royal Tea features an actress in the role of the young Princess Elizabeth, the week before her coronation as she and her childhood sweetheart Robert Dudley whisper secrets and enjQy the music of the royal musicians. Scott Phillips, public relations director who is also coordinating the backstage tours and Costume Cavalcade said all the festival productions have to be as good as they can be in order to preserve the companys reputation. Because of his disease, he has always felt "different." During a very special time in his life, Robb learns to accept himself and discovers the value of living life to its fullest each day. The production is under the direction of Mary Morris with School for Youth, at which time it played to sold out audiences. Following the premiere, the script was entered in the "Very Special Arts Fonda Henry Young Playwrights Project" where it was selected as a finalist from more than 150 scripts submitted nationally. The production was performed in February, under the auspices of the University of Utah Theatre Dept, at the Rocky Mountain Theatre Asspciation Festivention 88. The play will be presented at "Conference 1988: Theatre, A Learning Continuum" to be held in August in Portland, Ore. All proceeds from the Salt Lake performances will go to assist with transportation, housing and expenses for the cast, crew and playwrights presenting the play at the conference. General admission for the benefit production will be $5 per seat.
