Community residents involved in various fields including carpenters, electricians, plumbers, carpet layers and gas men visited the school to talk about their work with students. The students then became involved in planning their own house. The teacher has a basic frame which she uses each year in the program. Students each year are allowed to decide the features of the house, whether they want it to have three windows or a fireplace and two windows and whether it should be built of wood or brick. Miss Neal then discusses with parents, during a monthly group meeting, the childrens wishes and parents donate such items as of various types of houses resulted in students at Valley Crest of elementary building a house the in own their design right classroom. graders First and second involved in an IH class taught by LaRene Neal participated in the last which began project September with a discussion of students the and homes differences between them. Students visited several of their classmates homes to see first hand the different types of dwellings in the area, the teacher added. During November, the children Indian homes and in their erected a teepee discussion Later classroom. centered on various kinds of discussed wallpaper and paint. Since the house was getting a little shabby, students this year were required to paint the framework as well as the trim, she said. Silver garbage bags were used for installation, and students learned that insulation keeps a house warm or cool. Students chose brick for their home this year, and used a large sponge and red paint to make "bricks" on a butcher paper covering for the walls, she noted. Cardboard was used as plaster board and students cut shingles out of blue paper for the roof. Students learn many skills constructing their house, she noted. So many paper shingles had to be cut that by the end of the project every student had learned to cut on a line. Eye and hand coordination is improved by the many activities needed. "It is a very worthwhile experience for the students, so worthwhile I do this every year. This year it took the students six weeks to build the house, she noted. "The project involves many families, children learn things such as why it is necessary to have an address and why they need to know their address. The entire project is great for building We invite the entire school to visit and as the children hear other students say things like gee isnt this neat e. their is increased and they learn to feel good about themselves." she added. Each year the project ends with a party at Miss Neals home, so the children can see her house, self-conce- pt she concluded. K.I.D.S. RADIO ... A device called Platinum GaSaver, patented by National Fuclsavcr Corp., increases the efficiency of your combustion so effectively that your mileage is guaranteed to increase significantly in gasoline engines. The theory behind the GaSaver is the same as its government mandated cousin, the catalytic converter. Both cause unbumt fuel to bum. Their differences, however, are important. The catalytic converter bums unbumt exhaust gases in the tail pipe by exposing them to the platinum. Platinum GaSaver introduces platinum into the engine instead of the tail pipe. Platinum entering the engine increases the percentage of each gallon burning from the normal 68 to 90 percent Without the GaSaver, that 22 tail- percent would only bum in the with contact in came it when pipe the J platinum-coate- d catalytic 2 Words or Less (25' nADIL EJ Device Increases Gas Mileage; Finally, Americans can control I5 financial helplessness and frustra- - I SLATS PLAYING HOUSE ... Melissa Gudmundson seems pleased as surfaces of the converter. With the GaSaver, that 22 percent can now bum in the engine where the release of heat and energy is used to drive the vehicle. With 22 percent more of each gallon burning in the engine, 22 percent fewer gallons are required. The injector itself takes only minutes to install and works on both leaded and unleaded gasoline. Platinum GaSaver is cost effective and conforms to all federal and state pollution requirements. In addition, increasing the octane rat- ing 4 points eliminates the need for premium gasoline. Probably the most valuable asset by the GaSaver is the extending of engine life by remov- ing carbon deposits. Experts at Komatsu Motor Co. of Japan men-- I tioned, ...Research showed conclu- si vely that if you did not have carbon deposits in the combustion cham- bers of an engine, you would not 1 I ! wear away the cylinder walls Carbon deposits are simply another form of unbumt fuel... responsible for two other detrimental phenom-- 1 ena called engine knock or ping, and dieseling or run-oTo make the GaSaver a market- ing success, the public first needs proof that the GaSaver does indeed increase mileage. In October, 1982 S the products developer documented his claims by installing GaSavcrs on 27 vehicles operated by the Concord Public School District. Vehicles operated by a school district were selected for those tests to assure the publics trust in the results, Every GaSaver includes these results confirmed by the U.S. emment. 100,000 already in use.
