In an effort to improve community input, County Recreation and Parks director Glen Lu proposed the formation of several new citizen advisory groups and reported on efforts to improve the lines of with communication existing boards, councils and committees at last Wednesdays meeting of the Salt Lake County Recreation Board. Among the new boards Lu proposed to create were facility boards for Kearns and East Millcreek plus a full fledged, commission appointed county Equestrian Board. Meetings with the Citizens for the Preservation of Dimple convinced Lu of the need for an "Open Space Board" to look at the preservation of appropriate sites as open space or floor hockey and more. "We do a lot of things, a very diverse program," summarized Peterson. "A lot of people are surprised and what we have to offer." Peterson then introduced a new policy concerning overnight camping a Wheeler Historic Farm. The proposed policy must go before the county commission as a variance of the current policy which does not permit overnight camping at county parks. Peterson asked for and recieved the blessing of the recreation board. The policy would be youth oriented, requiring that 50 percent of any group be under 16 years of age. It would limited groups of 150 persons and restrict them to one group at a time. It set primitive areas.
