Joy Rogers, teen living teacher, suggested the project to drama after Gabor Frances teacher in workshops given participating by Susan Kosta, social worker and Eisenhower teacher Chris Moore in a positive parenting program. "There is such a surge of neglect and abuse all around us," said Mrs. Rogers, and I feel if we can teach students, at this age, how to control their anger, perhaps we can help them in their adult lives." Her classes address issues that concern teenagers today, she noted, with physical and mental abuse, hitting, unkind words, and all the things that can be classified as abuse of various kinds. The tapes will be used as discussion tools to help students see how abuse occurs, she noted. Thirty students are involved in the project, said Mrs. Gabor, and the sat down and entire group brainstormed ideas to begin the unit. Each student made notes of ideas and suggestions, which were then discussed by the group and made of scenes the students felt would be appropriate. WEST VALLEY. BODY LANGUAGE . . . The teen living classes will use the films to trigger discussiion on anger, what to do, what is appropriate behavior in differing circumstances, the teacher saidA "Some kids today have only people who yell or hit as role models, they see it on TV and in their neighborhoods, we hope they can see there are better ways of handling a situation," Mrs. Rogers said. She will team teach the sessions students a little with Mrs. Kosta.
