December 22, game Tuesday, between visiting Murray and host team Mountain Crest was almost cancelled because of a snow storm but the Murray cagers made the long ride through Sardine Canyon to Mountain Crest and came home with an loss to show for their efforts and the long, treacherous, bus ride. Murray will open the' Region Six season next Tuesday when it entertains Jordan at 7:30 and will then play on Friday, Jan. 8th, at South in a 3 p.m. contest. The Murray team wound up a tough preleague schedule with five wins and four losses. Mountain View took an early lead at the end of one during the contest highlighted by Doug Chapman scoring Murrays first eight points before getting in foul trouble. The big Cache Valley team increased the lead to at the half aided by a tremendous desperation shot from forty feet out which went through at the buzzer. With both Chapman and Tuttle, Murrays tall men, in foul trouble through most of the game, the Spartans could never get closer than eight in the final half. Mountain Crest, going to the line a good deal more often than Murray, increased the lead during the second half, although Peter Young, hitting 20 for the night, scored nine points during the final quarter in an effort to put his team ahead. Coach Craig Hammer felt that the foul difficulties experienced by Chapman and Tuttle took his team out of the game, but was pleased with other aspects of his teams play.
