Thanha Thach, a ninth grade student at West Lake junior high, received a $100 cash prize for his Christmas card design submitted in a contest sponsored by Trolley Square. The lad was top winner in the ninth grade division with a pencil drawing of a basket of mistletoe words the beneath Merry Christmas. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Khuong Thach is enrolled in an advanced art class taught by Sidney Crockett. The students have learned Christmas songs from various countries and will perform them in their original language, a PANAMA CANAL spokesman said. MEXICO Kindergarten students taught by Valerie Birtcher are studying the human body. Each child has a silhouette of themselves hanging in the classroom, and as each part of the body is studied, the children add that to their own body image. Lori Connors first grade class has been studying Christmas traditions in different countries. Parents are visiting the class to share stories and taste parties from lands afar, the spokesman said. Fourth graders in the class taught by Gayle Sampson are studying the five senses. Each student was asked to create a game using one of those senses, that could be played by one child alone or by a group. The results have included a varoety of guessing games and other ideas including a floor game using a mat of the tongue, in which players place hands and feet on different taste areas, similar to the popular game, Twister. David West and his second graders are working on a government unit and have held elections for a president, vice president and congress.
