(Part of a series) At According to the Green Sheet Aug. 19, 1982, page 4, Responding to Brimleys comments, Chick Paris said that he had been part of a rival political faction that had challenged the Magna Community Council in the late 1960s. He said that all it created was a lot of adverse feeling and confusion that split the community right up the middle and lasted only three years. We took the voting districts and elected two members from each one to from the Magna Elected Counand although cil, Paris recalled, the County Commisison recognized both of the councils, administrative officials on all levels found themselves at a loss to know just who did represent the area. In 1973 we merged with the Magna Community Council to put an end to all the strife, Paris said. In that same issue, Joe Ribotto, a longtime resident who is still active in community affairs here, com that time the members east of included Brent Huish, Dorothy McGuire, Camille McIntosh, Yvonne Smith, Dale Greenland, Tom Mansfield, Laura Jo McDermaid and Bruce Millet. In June of 1986, the number of members was almost the same with some changes in the names of the players. Brent Huish was still a member, as was Laura Jo McDermaid, but the new neighborhood members who were chosen by the elective process in their individual neighborhoods had changed. In place of. Dorothy McGuire was 8400 West Marlene Norcross, Christen Eldredge had replaced Camille McIntosh and Craig Taylor had replaced Yvonne Smith. Ron Wall who also lives east of 8400 West had take the place of Bruce Millet representing the County Sheriffs office. Along with the changes in the names of the players, there was also a change of mind as far as Chick elected members neighborhood against the people who were elected within their own organizations and appointed to a seat on the council. In the 1986 election of officers, the nominating committee presented a slate of officers to choose from, which included Laura Jo McDermaid and Christen Eldredge for the office of president; Dan Tuttle and Craig Taylor for vice president ; Clifford Beck for treasurer and Beth Archibald for secretary. There was no opposition for the post of treasurer and secretary because the neighborhood members declined to run for the lesser positions. To further complicate matters, Marlene Norcross decided to also run for vice president against Craig Taylor and Dan Tuttle. She asked for a caucus in which she and Taylor went into a huddle to see which one would step down. Since neither would give in, the vote was split and Dan Tuttle emerged victorious. Laura Jo McDermaid won the office of president by a wide margin, in spite of the fact that the opposition brought in Ralph Brimley to cast a ballot even though he had not attended a meeting for two years. From June 1986 to June 1987, every meeting became a confrontation between the two factions. Several of the neighborhood Magna Senior Citizen Center here brought in a total of $1,200, according to Jean Orton, manager. She attributed the success of the venture to a combination of a lot of poeple working together for a common goal and the generosity of residents who donated their unwanted articles to the center for the sale. Everybody who participates in the activities at the center helped, Mrs. Orton said. The mutual effort brought us closer together than we have ever been."
