While representing Kearns high Debbie McAffee (bottom), Ruth Hoover (left), Leah Voorhies and Lisa Benson will the structure of democratic governments and how they operate at girls state this summer. Student To Perform In Europe Miss Buell will join with other students from across America for five days of rehearsal prior to flying to Europe for the 17 day tour. GRANGER. Jennifer Jo Buell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Buell has been accepted as a member of the 1987 Spirit of America performing tour of Europe. She is a member of the Royal Lancers Brigade band at Granger high, is currently a sophomore and carries a 3.0 grade point average. The band will be under the direction of George E. Naff, former band director at East Carolina University. Our baseball team took the region championship and is on the way to the state playoffs which begin today at 3:30 here. The record for the season was 12-- and Im sure theyll do great at state. Soccer ended its season Friday with an incredible 12-- record also. Id like to tell the team they did great and Im sure next year will be even better. Theres no school Monday in observance of Memorial Day, so youll have an extra day to catch up on any homework you need to do. Tuesday night is the awards assembly, which is being held in the auditorium, starting at 7 oclock. Have a great weekend. It is not tactful to recognize yourself while writing your articles, so I would like to take the honor. Tuesday night was the annual senior awards banquet, held at the Copper Room. A lot of fun things went on; you know, dinner, award presentations and the usual stuff. Congratulations to the award recipients. Tonight (Thursday) the vocal and instrumental students present and display their talents in the annual spring concert. The program features the madrigals, concert choir, show choir, jazz band, concert band, percussion ensemble and others. The show begins promptly at 7 p.m. and there is no admission fee. Please attend for some great (and free) entertainment. Guys, Senior Ball is just around the corner. The dance will be held in the boys gym and doors will be open from p.m. Tickets are only $5 ($8 at the door), so what have you got to lose? Ask someone. Yes, there will be a talent assembly 1 think. You need to have your act approved by an exec member or Mr. Peckham by Friday in order to participate. Make sure its in good taste. The actual assembly is next Wednesday. Placers on the mens team include Scott Burnham in the 400 meter relay, Todd Christensen in the 400 meter relay, medley relay and mile relay; Craig Collotzi in the 400 meter relay, medley relay; Doug Cook in the high hurdles, intermediate hurdles and the mile relay; Eric Ferrante in the intermediate hurdles and the pole vault; Tony Lowe in the medley relay; Paul Marsh in the medley relay and the mile relay; Dale Muhlestein in the mile relay; Shane Nordfelt in the 200 meter run and the 400 meter relay; Mike Thomas in the high jump and James Workman in the long jump. Richard Coombs placed in the discus and also took first place in region. Twelve boys will represent Granger at the state finals tomorrow (Friday), so come out and support the track teams. It will be beneficial in two ways. You will be supporting your school, while at the same time working on your tan. To raise money for camp, uniforms and other such necessities, the drill team decided to 200 14-2- 0 past-preside- 21, 1987 Lancers Girls Staters Are Announced KEARNS, Four girls from Kearns high have been selected to attend the annual Girls State convention, to be held June at College of Southern Utah in Cedar City. The four were selected by representatives of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 132. Heading for Cedar City will be Leah Voorhies, Ruth Marie Hoover, Deborah McAffee and Lisa Marie Benson. Miss Voorhies, the daughter of James and Janice Voorhies, is president of the school orchestra, serves on the activities committee and is a member of drama club, drill team and the honor society. Miss Hoover, the daughter of Frederick and Ruth Hoover, is a member of th4e school senate and debate council, along with honor society. The McAffee lass is the daughter of Edward amd Susan McAffee, is immediate of the school chapter of the Key Club and currently Lt. Governor of District 2B Key Club. She is vice president of the National Honor Society, and a member of Spanish club. Miss Benson is junior class president, a member of the Senator Orrin Hatch Youth Council, member of debate club. All four expressed enthusiasm for Girls State and said they look forward to representing KHS at the convention, and to learning more about the American system of government.
