WARRIOR FACTS WORLD by Shelly Clements by With our basketball season coming to a climax this week, our school is really excited. Our basketball team went to the first game the State Tournament Tuesday. The other state games will be played every night this week and whatever the result is, Im sure well be proud. The girls basketball team plays March (next week) and Im sure theyll also do great. Yesterday our gymnastics team went to their second meet at South and will compete again next Thursday at Viewmont. If you can, go watch our ladies in action. Im sure theyd appreciate the support. The debate and drama departments at are also preparing for competition. The debaters will be at Skyline tomorrow (Friday) for the Region Three Douglas Debate Tournament and Tuesday the drama comp, teams will be at the Weber Invitational. Id like to wish everyone competing the best of luck. Im sure they'll do excellent. Our cheerleaders returned late Sunday night from national competition in Florida. Were real glad to have them back and would like to congratulate them for placing in the top 20. They were up against 71 other schools and they did super. With registration ending, a lot of clubs and groups have had their tryouts and chosen their new members. The Spotlight Players were announced last week and early Monday morning the new Madrigals were gathered and announced. All those interested in trying out for the Chirons should attend the workshops. Im sure all the new groups will do an excellent job and Id like to congratulate all those who made mads and Spotlight Players. The soccer team was announced at Fridays stomp, which turned out to be a success. Im sure theyll all do a great job. More info about their games will be given later. Well, as a closing comment, did you know Junior Prom is just around the corner? Yes, it is. March 20 is the day. So fellas, youd better start thinking about your favorite gal and ask her soon. Names of winners in the annual spelling contest have been announced at Arcadia elementary. Top winner for the school was Jenny Bosse, who will represent the school in district competition. Runner-uwas Kathryn Borg. Other winners included Julia DeWeese, third place; Melissa Hola, fourth; Todd Kelsey, fifth. Between the many pep assemblies and the games, classes have been cut shorter as we enjoy the new found freedom of the state games. For some students, getting out of for these games just isnt enough. They want to miss days of school. March 18 is the date set for yearbooks students to begin their trip to California. So, beginning with the sunny days in Arizona and ending in California, we wish everyone the best of times. There is a bright side for those remaining at school, we wont have to make up all the homework. Getting out of school isnt the only thing happening at school this week. G. What about the times when you are just in a bad mood, woke up on the wrong side of the bed, again. Parents live with that every day. (Sometimes it is like living with a porcupine turned inside out, right?) How do they make it throught the adolescent years? For such a complex question, there is a very simple answer. The joy of seeing growth and accomplishment seems to keep parents going. Even more than that something that speaks a universal language, something people seem to take for granted but give so rarely, something os easily given, keeps This special parents -going. - a hug. The most simple something form of communication of feelings, thoughts, and emotions. So the next time you come home from school and Dad or Mom comes home from a hard day at the office, do something different. Offer them the paper or a Coke. Or how about offering to fix the back fence for Dad? Cook the dinner for Mom? Better yet, just sit and talk, In todays society, communication seems to be a dying art between the generations.
