An tion invention conven- l at Western Hills elementary has offered first grade students an t?WXC"W 'i to develop their originality, creativity and also think of ways to help others. The 28 students of teacher Judy Throckmorton are involved in a gifted and talented program. We got to talking about inventions, how people thought of things to invent, how much work it is, the teacher commented. We stressed that it is necessary to keep trying, that you dont just quit if something doesnt work the first time. The students began to develop ideas and it has turned into a real fun project and very interesting, she added. PTA officers served as judges for the students efforts and selected three top winners and several honorable mentions. opportunity Mothers (and children) who are tired of making beds every day Winning first place was Nicholas cord-a-bewith his Whitney, 'In the morning, a pull on the cord slides the covers neatly over the bed - no -- walking around and straightening cord-o-bo- d ? Honorable mention was given Brian Dickman for a remote control garbage can, a trash receptacle mounted on a truck bed, which can be used for older people or the handicapped. The model was built from Lego blocks. Mathew Stevens also received honorable mention for his book mobile.
