Marketing students from all district high schools will participate in many realistic business contests, including general merchandising, restaurant marketing, food marketing, apparel and accessories, finance and credit, advertising, retail marketing and service station frJj Black & Decker, JANUARY TOOL SALE retailing. The students will compete in a business atmosphere to make the experience more realistic, according to Ron L'wviere, DECA coordinator at Granger high. He expects that many of the competing students will n continue in national DECA in San Francisco. com-petito- Early Birds Become 'Bookworms' GRANGER. Pioneer elementary students who are interested in science have an opportunity to increase their knowledge during an early morning class offered twice weekly by teacher Duane Jackson. In general, the classes are coordinated with the regular class assignments. The students can receive help with their regular assignments, can get more individual assistance than I can give the in class and can prepare for tests, explained Mr. Jackson. Louviere said, Granite district, has one of the largest and finest marketing programs in the nation. The public is being invited to see the students in action, competing in a real free enterprise experience, he said. The geology discussions have centered upon rock formations and volcanoes, and students have been bringing specimens of rocks to school and have made miniature volcanoes. A weather unit which is planned will include discussion of weather zones, storm systems, what is meant by lows and highs, cold fronts and cause and effect of storms. Students will keep track of local and state-wid- e temperatures and make up charts comparing weather in different parts of Utah. Most students find science an in- teresting class and the early morning session offers a little additional experience, a little extra help to those teacher the interested, espcially noted. HUNTER. In the art division, 100 entries were received from students in the primary grades and 31 from intermediate grade students. In the literature division, entries totalled five from the lower grades and nine from upper grade students. One entry was received from each group in the music division. Fifteen finalists were selected to have their entries sent in to the PTA council level competition.
