Cyprus tallied a run in the first on base hits by Todd Rushton, Wayne Jones and Kirk Woodruff and Woodruff chased another run home in the third. Taylorsville tallied four in the first. Craig Vargo had a base hit, Kelly Davis and Billy Lamboume doubled. Brown blasted a triple and Ryan Brown added a base hit. In the third, Keith Lever doubled and Scott Barrett, Ryan Brown and Belgarde had singles to score three runs. Davis tripled and Vinnie Brown singled home the final run. Kearns coach Steve Dallin was hoping to improve his teams seeding by finishing in the top three, but faced an uphill battle by playing Taylorsville. Earlier in the week Kearns had beaten West 7 and Bingham but the game with Granger was the key. The Bronco all stars from Kearns National League captured top honors in the district tournament and were slated to open state action yesterday (Wednesday). Rick Morgan pitched Kearns to a win over Viewmont in the team's opener, with Troy Blume contributing a three-ruhomer. Kearns was then the victim of a Tooele shutout, with Cliff Carty getting the lone Kearns hit. Morgan, Darwin Kelsch and Carty , came back to blank Vernal with Roger Griffiths going 3x3. Kearns picked win over South Davis, with up an homers credited to Morgan, Jeff Wiss, T roy Blume and Rory Mann. The key contest was avenging the loss to Tooele 4 3 with Morgan on the mound. Deadlines Nearing - Animals Will Add Life To County Fair Like a zoo, a county be the same without animals. When the Salt Lake County Fair opens on Aug. 13, plenty of animals will be there to greet the visitors. Exhibitors of poultry, pigeons and rabbits have the earliest deadlines, with registration forms due Aug. 3. In the poultry and pigeons, the entry fee is 50 cents per bird, and $1 for a trio in the poultry class. Rabbits are $1.25 per entry, with a limit of 14 of the furry creatures per address. Check-i- n for these classes is Aug. 12, and winners may receive up to $2. In the sheep department, registration forms are due Aug. 9. Up to two entries in any one class will be accepted, and there is a pen fee of $1 per head. Winning entries can earn up to $5. Dairy cattle have an entry fee of $1 per head, and entry blanks are due no later than Aug. 10. Animals must be at the fairgrounds by 10 a.m. on the first day of the fair, Aug. 13. Winning entries may bring up to $18. Beef cattle and swine departments will be included if interest warrants it. Those interested in entering animals in these categories are to call the fair office after Wednesday. Entry blanks are due Aug. 7. The fee is $1 per head.
